That1Guy played the Railway Club last night. Fun show, good times, lots of high-energy music from a one-man band.

He was playing something known as the Magic Pipe (more accurately, it's Version 2: in 2008 his van and all its contents were stolen, including the original Magic Pipe). It truly is a wonder of construction and invention, an amalgamation of pipes, strings, wires, buttons, and magic. He plucks, he bows, he slaps, he taps, he kicks. M.P. 3 is in the works, which will apparently have even more innovations. If this wasn't impressive enough, he also played the saw, and a cowboy boot. He's also an excellent showman who knows how to play to his crowd, and was kind enough to let me
take a couple of pictures of him after the show with my too-mighty-for-words cellphone camera.
I struck up a conversation with the woman who runs the lights, sells the merchandise. It was interesting, watching her in action; her console was about the size of a computer keyboard with lots of dials and buttons. She even gets to play with lasers - how cool is that? At one point, she said she needed to have a cigarette and asked me if I'd run the lights while she was away - neat! She showed me what to do and there I was, pretending I knew what I was doing. The song being played at the time? 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow'. Perfect. The Universe truly does have a sense of humour.
To be honest, I wasn't sure if I was going to see a truly innovative performer or just a one-trick pony. Happily, I was not disappointed. Check him out the next time he's in town. In the meantime, here's a sample of what he can do:
