BASED ON REAL EVENTS! MY SHORT STORY IN PROGRESS:

The Curse of the Pants

I acquired the pants from a one-eyed man in a covered market on the dusty streets of Istanbul. They were nothing special, just some denim jeans, but it was the price that got me. Not only were they free, but the one-eyed man paid me to take them. “Take these pants,” he urged. “Okay,” I agreed, thinking I could always use some more pants. “I must warn you,” he hissed, “These pants are a cross between comfort…. And EVIL!” “But, mostly comfort?” “No.” “Half evil, half comfort?” “No, a little less.” “Forty percent comfort?” “No, still a bit lower. I’d put the comfort-evil ratio at about four to one.”

I decided that getting the pants, as well as being paid a healthy sum for taking those pants was a good deal, despite the evil. I tried the pants on during the long plane trip back home. In the cramped lavatory, I put my right leg in, then my left, and pulled them up. They were a shockingly good fit; loose enough to be comfortable, yet they stayed up with no belt; the pant legs were neither too long nor too short. I noticed something I had previously overlooked: the pant button was solid gold, with a green stripe in the middle, shaped almost like a cat’s eye. It seemed to glare at me while I wore its proverbial body. I got an eerie feeling from that eye button, but I brushed it off as my wild imagination running off again.
