Themyscira is never more beautiful than it is on a warm, late winter day. The air around the island is cool and crisp, the waves gentler now than they are during the summer, when the waters come to life with the fauna that thrives down below in Poseidon's kingdom. Though much of the island's lush vegetation doesn't thrive the way it might in the spring, there is still so much that the beauty is never detracted, that Themyscira does not ever look cold or deserted or uninviting.
And yet, the island has become uninviting to me. Or at least, I am uninvited from it. Themyscira, the very island from whose clay I was born, no longer welcomes me upon her soil. I cannot say that I blame her - nor her inhabitants - entirely for my unwelcome. The last year and a half have been harsh, difficult on us all, from my murder of Maxwell Lord to the retreat of Themyscira and our gods from this plane, to my having gone into hiding as Agent Diana Prince of the Department of Metahuman Affairs, to the dark and blood-thirsty resurrection of my mother at the hands of the vile sorceress Circe, things have gotten from bad to worse.
And now my mother, the freshly returned Queen of the Amazons, shuts me out of her life, just as the island shuts me out of it's land, though I am both part of my mother and part of the island.
Themyscira is far emptier than ever, and far less inviting. Perhaps one day it will open it's doors to me, but until that happens, I can no longer lay claim to being it's princess.
