found out my fate the hard way [open]

With everyone's powers out, it was a bit strange in the mansion. Everyone secluding themselves off, like a fight was about to break out. For Marie's part, she was loving this. She was showing skin and smiling, like everything was alright. She was even humming as she walked through the halls, intent on grabbing something something to eat and then ( Read more... )

For Remy’s part, he was one of those not enjoying this turn of events. After the run in with Creed and discovering that they were both powerless; after finding that they were not the only ones; after learning all he could, which was very little at this point, the Cajun had retreated to his room. He now had a reason for that odd, empty feeling. He felt discontent, hollow, and a little lost. He had grown so use to that buzz of energy, not to mention the security that came with the knowledge that anything in his hands could become a deadly weapon ( ... )

She arrived in the kitchen and caught him half bend over. With a smirk she slid in next to him. "Well, ain't that a nice view?" Marie teased before going to grab a cup to get some water.

Normally Remy LeBeau was practically impossible to sneak up on. Having grown up on the streets then been trained at a young age to be a master thief it was important to always be aware of his surroundings, to pick up on even the slightest noise or change in ambience. So distracted by his current predicament, though, he didn’t hear Rogue enter until she was practically beside him. Starting slightly, he looked over at her and then... looked some more.

Of course he should have expected her change in wardrobe considering what was going on, but being so caught up in his own problems he hadn’t even thought of her, and being so used to seeing her covered practically from head to toe, her current look was a bit of a surprise.

“Dat’s one o’ my lines,” he replied when he recovered, a smile slowly spreading across his face. Standing up straight, Remy crossed his arms over his chest and let his eyes travel slowly and obviously over her body. “Dere’s somet’in’ different about you...”

The fact she caught him off guard was a win. The fact that he was practically staring at her all over was another win. With her back turned to him, she turned the water on and tilted her chin to listen to him. With a smirk, she turned the water back off and took a sip of her water.

She slowly walked up to him and smirked. She wasn't wearing her gloves and her free hand slowly up to his cheek. "I can touch." She replied simply, but the mere fact she could clearly meant a lot to her.

While Remy appeared fairly relaxed, he watched Rogue’s every move closely. Of course her powers were negated so he didn’t have to worry about that, but that didn’t make him completely unwary. It was the same as with the professor: even though he knew the man somehow couldn’t get into his head, that didn’t make him any less intimidating.

“Ah, dat’d do it,” he drawled, his eyes flicking over to her hand. He tried to put himself in her shoes for a moment. Was she just being frivolous, touching anyone and everyone just because she could, or was something so simple as a hand on his cheek worth so much more to her? She seemed to be playing it off as no big deal, but her eyes betrayed her.

Slowly raising his own hand, Remy covered hers, holding it against his face and gently caressing the back of her hand with his thumb. “An’ how does it feel?” His eyes never left hers for a moment.

Surprisingly she hadn't gone up to everyone and touched them when she'd learned what she could do. Rogue only knew it because of Sean. And if it happened, then it did. As much as she definitely wanted to go up to just about everyone and shake their hand or give them a cheek to cheek hug, she managed to refrain. After all, she still did have plenty of walls built up ( ... )

Now that was more the reaction he had expected, more raw emotion and awe than frivolity. How long had it been since she’d touched someone, really touched them without fear of hurting them? A few years at least, he had to wager ( ... )

She couldn't draw her gaze away from him, the sheer impact still hitting her. It felt like a wave she'd never be able to surface from washing over her. All she could do was breathe.

"I couldn't help it. I didn't wanna hurt anyone. I didn't want to hurt you." She told him, before looking down. "Last boy I touched wound up dead."

She broke the reverie and dropped her hand. This seemed too good. The shoe had to drop sometime. The reminder of her first boy friend was like another blow to the chest.

He hadn’t meant to make her feel bad about it; it wasn’t meant to be a statement about her. It was unfair, the hand she had been dealt, probably the cruelest ability he had ever encountered. There were those that had physical mutations and felt they had to hide from society, but they could always find others like them, those that would not judge them. They didn’t have to be isolated, they could still feel the most basic and primal human instincts and act upon them. And while Rogue could give the appearance of normal, she was an outcast even among those like her, never able to get truly close to anyone. Remy’s heart ached for her, but her confession still came as a shock. He couldn’t imagine her killing anyone, but then it most likely hadn’t been intentional ( ... )

Her first instinct was to pull away. Not because she couldn't touch him, but he was close to her and he knew so much about her. It was a different sort of fear. And yet, there was a comfort in it. That he knew and he still wanted this, whatever this was. Marie looked up at him and smiled.

"I never meant to hurt anyone with it. It just happened. And it's painful for people. The look on Logan's face when I touched him..." She could still feel his claws slicing through her stomach. She swallowed and looked down. "I never wanted this. So not havin' it right now? It's like a miracle."

He felt her stiffen in his arms and for a moment he thought she was going to pull away. She didn’t, but she didn’t settle into the embrace either, instead keeping enough distance to look up at him. She was still close, though; still very close.

The temptation was so great to just close that last bit of distance between them, but she was still dealing with it all. It was a lot to deal with. Still, he wasn’t about to stand here and let her beat herself up over things she couldn’t change. Hooking one finger under her chin, he tilted her head up to look at him again.

“Dey ain’t de only ones it’s painful for, are dey?” he said softly, more a statement than a question. “Miracle or no, you deserve dis.”

Her shoulders dropped and she let out a slow, haggard breath at his words. There was a soft smile before she leaned in to kiss him, good and proper. Because he was there. Because it was him. Because he seemed to calm her down and make her want the world. Which wasn't exactly hard, but he somehow provided her with not only it, but the moon, too.

Whether she was ready or not she had made the first move, and Remy certainly wasn’t about to deny her. Moving his hand to cup her cheek, keeping the contact, he returned the kiss powerfully, passionately. If this was going to be her first real kiss in a very long time then it was going to be a good one. Besides, it wasn’t like he hadn’t thought about it himself, but as much as he flirted and joked about taking risks, her powers honestly terrified him.

Now it didn’t matter, though. Nothing mattered right now than this moment; the feel of her skin, just as soft as he imagined it to be; the taste of her mouth, sweet and hot. With the arm still around her back Remy pulled her closer.

She didn't know what she was supposed to expect. She half feared her powers would start up again, but when they didn't, Marie relaxed even further and tilted her head to deepen the kiss. It was a moment she didn't have to repress herself, and it felt more than amazing to do so.

Her fingers found themselves gripping at his clothes, half out of nervousness though she was clearly responsive to his mouth. He was a man. Her old boyfriend was nothing like this, but Marie caught on pretty fast. With someone as schooled in this as Remy, it was hard not to.
