Depowering Event Starts [open]

Oct 11, 2011 20:57

Some point mid afternoon, a silence falls over the Mansion that's nearly as bad as it is outide. In a corner of the house, a blinding light speeds across the wing. A boy appears in just a white shirt and pants. The light then spreads, like a bright lensflare shuddering itself through the property ( Read more... )

John used fire so casually and so often, he didn't even think about it. He didn't even realize he was flicking on the lighter at his wrist until it burned him.

It burned him.

"OW!"

He lifted his hand and examined the lighter, giving it one more experimental flick. It sparked, it burned his hand, he shook it furiously and scowled at it.

What the hell was going on?

Lorna decided the best course of action was to wander from room to room, flicking her wrist and then cursing. She'd made it to John's when she heard him. Peering in, she looked at him.

"Is... is something happening or is it just me?" She asked before she saw herself in the reflection of some ornamental art piece of the wall. "What the fuck? I'm blonde?!"

"Who gives a flying fuck what colour your hair is? I lost my power," John said crossly.

She turned her hair to stare at him. "My hair is a part of my mutation, douchebag." Lorna retored before bringing her hand up to move his lighter. Still nothing.

"See. Not working either."

John watched her lift her hand, but didn't get what was meant to be going on.

"Well nothing certainly happened," he agreed. "What do you do?"

She crossed her arms. "Control metal. What do you do?" Lorna asked looking back at him.

"Control fire."

He gave her an odd look.

"You can control metal like Magneto?"

She smiled. "That's pretty cool. You know, when it works." Lorna replied.

Shifting her weight, she nodded. "Yeah. He's helping me."

"You're lucky," John told her simply. He glanced around. "We should find him. See if he knows what's going on. If he doesn't, he'll be aiming to find out. We could help."

"He's pretty good at the whole mutation thing. He could probably help you." She said a little hopeful. When he wasn't being an ass.

Lorna nodded. "Him or the Professor."

"I don't need help," John said as they walked. "I work for him in my time."

"Oh. I had never heard of him until I came here. I think he was expecting me to shun him. Everyone talks about him like they should avoid him. I kind of like him in his own egotistical way." He was still an ass, but none of this was said in a negative way. She was actually smiling somewhat.

"What do you do for him here?" She asked.

He glanced over at her. "I'm sure there's lots of people here with the same opinion about me."

Bobby and Rogue came to mind.

"I do whatever he needs done. Go on missions. That sort of thing."

"People are going to have their own opinions." She shrugs. "Screw'em. You like what you do, right? Then whatever."

Lorna continued down. She wasn't really informed on the whole mutant versus human issue. Of course she was aware of human's hate, but it wasn't like mutants weren't capable of doing horrible things.

"Sounds pretty cool. I'm sure your ability helps with the missions, protection wise."

"Yeah, I'm usually there to back him up," John said.

The atmosphere in the mansion felt... weird. He tapped on the door to Erik's office, then opened it a crack and peeked inside.

"He's not here."

She won't lie; she was kind of impressed. Erik wasn't the kind of man who just adopted anyone. If he took to John, he was a good mutant. Or at least a good mutant to have around. Not that that helped in their present condition.

Once at his office, she looked in. "All that metal, and I've never felt so empty in my life." Lorna frowned. It was like a vulnerability. She needed to find Erik, see if it was the same.

"Maybe he went to find the Professor. They are good friends in this time."
