trust me [logan and rogue]

Oct 05, 2011 20:47

Before going to see Kayla, Logan knew there was one other person he needed to see before he and Victor set out to find Stryker on their own. There was so many possibilities that could result in their plan. He remained optimistic that they would find him, and end him. Yet, there was that tug of realism that haunted him. What if he didn't come back ( Read more... )

Even with people grouping up to do things before classes started, Marie had gone back to her secluded ways. She barely even wanted to see the people she was close with. Not with Erik blaming her. She shouldn't have taken it so hard, but Marie did. She'd come to trust him, despite her better judgment.

The knock at her door had her lifting her chin. "Come in." She said, not entirely sure she wanted to see anyone at the moment.

Logan pushed the door open slowly, and peeked in before stepping fully inside.

"You busy?" he asked.

She shook her head before sitting up in bed and putting the book down. She'd been doing a whole lot of nothing. Unless you count avoiding an activity.

"No. What's up?' Marie asked cautiously. He wasn't the type to just come to hang out.

He shut the door behind him and walked over to the chair beside her bed.

"Haven't seen ya much lately. Are you avoiding me?" he asked, only partly joking.

She tried to smile at that and shook her head. "I was in the future. And then came back. And me and Pyro are fight. And me and Erik are fighting... and I just don't even wanna see people. Remy's gettin' better though." A faint smile, but really, mentioning Erik made her cringe.

And Charles' speech was starting to help.

Logan dropped down into the chair slowly, and leaned forward to rest his elbows on his knees. He should have known after talking to Victor that that was the reason he didn't see her either.

"It happened to Victor, too." he said, looking down at his hands. "What year were you sent to?"

"2003. Things were just... different. Bad. War against the humans." Marie looked down and shifted to sit Indian style. The only other person she'd told was Erik and he ended up flipping out on her in the end. Marie didn't want to rehash this.

"Yeah, well it's no different in '85 from what I've heard." he replied, looking up at her. She didn't need to know about what side he stood on in that particular future. It would give her something to worry about, and he wasn't about to do that to her. Not when she already had enough guilt on her shoulders to last two lifetimes.

"Other people were sent?" She raised an eyebrow. That was news to her. "God, I'm starting to hate this portal. It's screwin' so much up. Things ain't supposed to be like this."

He acknowledged with a single nod. "But, the future Victor told me about was based off what's going on now, here in '63."

"I don't know what my future was like. It was just humans versus mutants, and the school wasn't a school. They were plannin' on attackin' different places. No one sought reason or peace or... mercy. It wasn't like our time, Logan." She shook her head and looked down.

"Just one giant, neverending war." he murmured to himself without any kind of emotion behind it. He'd seen wars, been apart of them, as well as be apart of more.

He reached out to her and took her shoulder gently. "We still have time to change all of it."

She lifted her chin and nodded. Marie felt like the weight of the world was on her shoulders. Even if she wasn't really involved in it any more. It was just everything. She looked at him, trusting him completely. "I know. I have faith in you, Logan." And Charles. Erik it depended on the day.

She looked back down, still feeling guilty. Curling her knees to her chest, she swallowed hard.

"I can't promise how, or even when, but it will." he told her with certainty.

He wouldn't tell her his plans for later, if only because he didn't want her to try and talk him out of it. Which he knew she would. "So do me a favour and don't worry so much anymore."

She scoffed slightly at that. It was impossible to not worry. Not when everything seemed so dire. "Of course I'm going to worry. And you know, I'm not some little girl, Logan. Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely glad I got you lookin' out for me, but you don't need to look after me."

He knew that. It was, in truth, why he'd kept his distance this long. With Rogue, he decided to let her come to him when she needed help, or just a familiar face to offer as a reminder that there were still people who cared.

"I'm not lookin' after you. You got enough people around you trying to do that. "
