I know it's been quite literally a year since I last used LiveJournal, but when I saw this meme, I couldn't help but resurrect (well, "reuse" . . . it never really died, per se) this journal. Besides, it would be nice to rekindle the glory days instead of dwelling in no-man's land on my own.
So, just for fun: a music meme! One of those standard "choose a song to fit each description" types of things. But there's always so many pertinent selections. Oh, well. Let the smattering begin!
One of the earliest songs you can remember listening to:
"You Are My Sunshine" by Norman Blake -- it was on a music box I had when I was little, and "Sunshine" was one of my mother's nicknames for me as an itty-bitty.
Song from the artist you last saw live:
"Ring-A-Ding Ding" by John Pizzarelli -- wow. It's been a while.
Song you currently can't get out of your head:
"Thinking of Him" & "I Miss the Music" by John Kander & Fred Ebb -- I've been engrossed with the soundtrack of Curtains lately.
Song by someone who is dead:
"Across the Universe" by John Lennon -- I first heard it performed by Fiona Apple.
Song you discovered from a film:
"Safe & Sound" by Shania Twain -- K-PAX is awesome.
Song you love to sing along to:
. . . must there only be one answer for this?
Song you totally misunderstood the first time you heard it:
"One Week" by Barenaked Ladies -- hyperspeed, anyone?
Love song:
"It Is You (I Have Loved)" by Dana Glover -- for those who don't recognize the title, it's the ballad theme from the first Shrek.
Song that makes you nostalgic:
"Dante's Prayer" by Loreena McKennitt -- this song makes me melt in such a comforting way.
Song that makes you cry:
"The Luckiest" by Ben Folds -- like a newborn baby. Such a simple, beautiful song.
Song that makes you laugh:
This one deserves a double response, since both really came to mind at the same time:
1. "The Boy From . . . " by Linda Lavin -- from The MAD Show, composed by Stephen Sondheim & Mary Rodgers as a parody of "The Girl from Ipanema". [sings] ". . . Tacarembo la Tumbe del Fuego Santa Malipas Zacatecas la Junta del Sol y Cruz!"
2. "Let's Get Started On Doing All Those Awesome Things I Suggested" by Strong Bad -- this is one of those music set-ups that just makes me snort horrendously. Esp. considering the track never makes it to the chorus. Purposefully.
Song that makes you want to dance:
"The Hamsterdance Song" by Herman the Hamster -- first thing that came to mind. Another one of those "must I choose?" categories.
Song with food in the title:
"Barbecue for Two" by Jim Luigs & Scott Warrender -- not directly a food title, but boy-howdy what an internal list! (From Das Barbecu.)
Song that creeps you out:
"Strawberry Fields Forever" OR "A Day in the Life" by The Beatles -- not the best examples I can come up with, but good enough.
Really good cover song:
"I'll Still Be Loving You" by Reba McEntire (originally by Restless Heart) -- Reba's rendition makes it a whole new song.
Song about dreaming or waking up:
"This Time Tomorrow" by Ken Ludwig & Don Schlitz -- from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Such a sweet, beautiful lullaby.
Song you like only because of the title:
"Incense and Peppermints" by Strawberry Alarm Clock -- need I say more?
Song you like from an artist that you otherwise don't like:
"Smooth" by Carlos Santana w/ Rob Thomas -- great song. Everything else in their repertoire? Meh.
Song you hate:
Anything by Michael Bolton is the immediate response.
Real posts later.
