I(and all my roommates) are getting evicted. We have one month to move to somewhere else.
The
housing market in Saskatchewan is kind of like that right now; despite a rising Canadian dollar, housing costs are skyrocketing, and renters are being evicted wholesale, like us. Students are put in a hard position.
Oh, and in case any of you (especially prospective landlords) are wondering, it's not necessarily us; the house is really falling apart. The wiring dates back to the 20's, and is all in dry, clothbound wire, mostly 2-prong. The house has a 30' tree lodged on it's roof, possibly causing permanent damage. The house is literally cracking in two, and most of the downstairs windows are broken(were broken before we moved in, landlord never fixed them. This obviously increases heating costs during the winter). The pipes are all leaky, the roof literally pours water during spring, and also during the spring the sewers back up, causing fecal matter to coat the entire basement. You just can't clean this stuff out of the walls. All of the windows are painted shut- it's a total fire hazard, and against fire regulations in too many ways to count. The place is a dump. It's a nice dump, circa 1920's dump filled with historical oddities(like an old crank telephone from the days prior to pulse dialing), but it's a dump. The house is going to be torn down, it was just a matter of when.
That being said the house that I was living in was a pretty damn good deal, all things considered. I should consider myself just having been lucky until now. Now we get to deal with what most of the rest of the renters which are members of the set {Population of Alberta, Population of Saskatchewan} have been going through for a yearish, at least. Fun fun.
So...anyone with a house willing to hold me up for a while? Might come in handy...
