Archimedes is dead!

Archimedes, my trusty 650MHz compac desktop, appears to be toast. Rather, its one and only hard drive had its boot sector corrupted, at the very least, and now it doesn't even get to grub in the boot process. Unless somehow I uninstalled grub, which would have been completely unintentional. Anyway, I do still have computers at my disposal; Perogie, my server from which I am typing this is still thankfully working fine, and I may end up using it in the meanwhile, but it's entirely CLI, so there's certain things I won't be able to do for a little bit. I can't expect too much from the hard drive--the drive, along with the whole computer, was a gift from GOD and ben_harack, and it did work for at least a year, almost two years now.

I'll get meirionwen to burn me a knoppix disk and probably boot using that somehow later tonight, but right now she's asleep.

This isn't actually so bad. Hell I may even get more done this way.

Update: new computer up, peiced together from the remains of Archimedes, running knoppix. Ah the advantages of free computer equipment...

rip, arhcimedes, retrocomputing, computers, joys of computing
