More Poems

At the request of a new and good friend of mine, I've decided to post more of my poems from the past few years. These are less than stellar in some regards, but there are a few memorable lines. You decide.

Wherever by Josh Ver Halen

A sweet, empowering silence after the chaos of life
Take a second, listen, hear everything in the void
Sense everything yet don’t try to understand
For as it is, that’s beyond the realm of possibility

Reach back and try to grab that feeling
The euphoria just before the edge of oblivion
Feel don’t think, Sense don’t look
You never know what’ll come don’t cheat yourself out

Turn off the sounds of life around you
Hear yourself whisper, listen to yourself
For you subconscious mind knows just where you are
Let it tell you or you’ll never know

Open your eyes and see what you felt
Where are you now, where have you been?
Some celestial dream, the edge of eternity
The beginning of life or the end of it all

Move around and try to figure
What is this place of pure blazing light
Can’t figure it out? Close your eyes again
This time, listen, the mind does not lie

Don’t understand, think of the silence
The gleaming light through the Dark
The gleaming gates, the echo of your mind in your head
Give up? Don’t know? Here’s a hint, you’re .

Caoineadh Cu’ Chulainn by Josh Ver Halen

Amidst the jade hills of this land of myth
In the wind, whistling across the coastal plains
Among the mists, as though of Avalon itself
Along the rocky shores of County Galway to the hills of Chulainn

A song is sung upon the wind
A lyrical ballad of simply being
The plains, the hills, the shores, the homeland itself
All join the unending melody, just now begun anew

Entwined in the silky web that is this melody
A faint vaporous echo of sorrow carries
A lament, a mourning, for a lost hero of the heartland
The land calls out, a’ Caoineadh Cu’ Chulainn

“Mo ghile mear, our hero is lost”
“Le’ Suibne sirthe cha’n”
“Oscail an Doras don Fhindlheir”
“Nochan e’ m’ainm dlighthe cha’n”

Our land’s greatest champion
Our home’s most revered persona
The gods of the land hold no favor with us
We have lost the heartland’s immortal

Let the Caoineadh resonate over the hills
May it rise above the plains, across the shores of Ireland
Hear throughout the counties all around
She is lost

The piper then shall play a lament
A’ Caoineadh Cu’ Chulainn
Open the doors into the other worlds
Oscail an Doras don Fhindlheir
