Criminal Minds Amazing Race: Leg One: USA to Sweden

Team: Aaron 'Hotch' Hotchner and Erin Strauss (co-workers)

Day Two: Copenhagen Airport, 13.30

They both sleep on the flight, their seats together on one side of the plane, grouped together with the other teams. There’s an amount of tension, but neither of them are particularly bothered by it, even if a few of the others teams clearly are.

They wake in time to watch out of the window as they make the approach to Copenhagen, Hotch having to lean forward a little to see past Strauss. This is the first time he’s been to Copenhagen Airport, and he can’t help but feel a little disappointed that he isn’t going to get a chance to really see anything while they’re a part of this challenge. They’re going to be more concerned with getting the tasks done and making it to the pit stop ahead of at least one other team.

The teams split up as they disembark the plane, forming three groups of four, and Hotch glances up at the airport boards, relieved to see that they’re arrived on time. That had been the one thing he’d dreaded, because, with the flight they had from Copenhagen, they were the ones who would have been affected by any delays, and possibly ended up on an even later flight than the others.

“We need to find our gate,” Strauss comments, before glancing towards the other three teams that are getting the same flight as them.

Hotch nods his agreement before she can even ask, and she smiles a little before edging over to the others. It only takes a few quick words before they all agree to search for the gate together, they’re already booked on the flight so it doesn’t make any difference to any of them, once they’re in Stockholm it’ll be a different matter.

They make it to the gate to board in time and split up to find their seats, which are more spread out this time, something that Strauss decides to take advantage of, grabbing their instructions from Hotch’s bag before shoving into the overhead lockers with her own.

Once they’re in the air Strauss flags down one of the stewardesses, “Do you know anything about the Ice Bar, it’s at the Nordic Sea Hotel?”

The woman smiles, nodding, “Yes, it is very popular with the tourists.”

“Do you happen to know what time it opens?”

The stewardess hesitates for a moment, “No, I can ask if anyone else knows, I will be back soon.”

Hotch watches the woman as she retreats down the cabin, before turning to Strauss, “You know, at some point you’re going to get us into trouble.”

Strauss laughs, waving a hand, “Nothing was said that suggested we can’t ask for directions or information.”

Hotch shrugs, “True, but if it does get us in trouble, it’ll be entirely your fault.”

Strauss nods faux solemnly, “Noted Agent Hotchner.”

The stewardess returns before Hotch can reply, her smile a touch brighter than it was before, “It opens between three and three thirty.”

“Thank you,” Strauss smiles up at the woman, and Hotch resists the urge to roll his eyes. He has a feeling that he’s going to see that particular smile a lot.

The stewardess smiles, “It was no problem,” before moving on down the cabin. Hotch follows her progress, watching as a surprised expression crosses her face as one of the other team speaks to her. At least if they get in trouble for it, they won’t be the only ones.

He settles back, reading the instructions again, pondering on what type of task could be awaiting them in the ice bar, “I don’t know anything about Stockholm.”

Strauss glares at him, “I didn’t think you would.”

He shrugs, “I might have done, had it ever come up in a conversation with Reid, but it hasn’t.”

“I should have asked for him instead of you,” she comments, though it’s without heat. He has a feeling that Reid had been at the bottom of the list, along with Garcia and Rossi.

He glances at his watch, before pulling it off his wrist and resetting it to match the time displayed at the front of the cabin. “There’s not long until we land.”

Strauss nods, considering the distance between them and the door, before shrugging, “Well we’ll be ahead of at least eight of the other teams, whatever happens.”

“Provided it doesn’t take us over five hours to find the Nordic Sea Hotel.”

Strauss glares at him again, which is the reaction he’d expected, “Or course.”
