Disclaimer: I am either acquainted with, or friends with, several Christians. I am perfectly aware that both sides of the fence have irrational fanatics. If you feel offended by anything I say, please don't hesitate to bring it to me and we can talk about it.
That being said...
I am beyond mind-boggled about the issue of gay marriage. While I certainly understand that the desire and pressure to institute gay marriage is driven by the push to include sexual orientation into civil rights matters, and is indicative of wishes of the sexual orientation community (including homosexuals, transgender, etc.) to share equally in the rights and benefits afforded to everyone else, I do not understand the conservative terror and response.
I am genuinely curious as to why my choice of partner has any bearing on the quality of life for the heterosexual couple down the street. I am genuinely curious as to why this country can't seem to afford the rights, liberties, and benefits that it promises to everyone without legislating and debating the topic to insensibility. I am genuinely curious as to why human beings believe that they can possibly speak for God. I am genuinely curious as to the empirical support that these conservatives choose to offer as support for their fervent passion against both gay marriage and homosexuality.
I would very much like to hear others thoughts and opinions. However, I have exorcised the cynical and bitter sentiments and questions in the interest of keeping this as a discussion, rather than a hate fest. Please respect that.
