Yeah, it's the weekend!

Good things this past week:
1. Spent my first full week at work on the historical exhibit project, which finally got budgetary approval. It's great to sink my teeth into a new history project: reviewing the research I did last summer, making lists of possible thematic emphases, what should go on the historical timeline, which people & legal cases & events to include, compiling a list of former staff to interview and solicit for memorabilia. I love the combination of creative brainstorming and logical listmaking.

2. Thursday dumplings! Rickshaw Dumplings, the best in NYC, stops in the financial district on Thursdays, and they are well worth waiting in line for.

3. Patricia Wrede and Caroline Stevermer's book The Grand Tour, magic in a Jane Austen-esque Regency setting. A very fun read with a different take on magic than HP. This is the second book, after their Sorcery and Cecilia, or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot. Both fun, light reads.

4. Finally watched "Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead" (David Tennant, I love you) and the first night of "Torchwood: Children of Earth" (Captain Jack just cannot die, dammit). I read no spoilers, and I'm glad. Nice creepiness in TW.

5. Dinner with littlelizzyann. I showed her all of my photos from Azkatraz and San Francisco. She was mightily impressed by the Death Eaters and Malfoys. I'm starting now to try and talk her into Infinitus.

6. Thanks to alabastardragon's facebook page, I now know that the HP Exhibit is heading to Boston after it wraps up in Chicago. Boston! It's only a 5-hour drive to Boston! Or bus ride, or... I'm thinking that East Coasters could have their own version of zibit_con_09 in Boston this fall? Malfoys?

This would bring me to the frustrations.

1. I cannot go to Chicago for zibit con later this month. I've been checking flights since I got back from SF to see if I could swing it. Then money I was expecting would be available, however, is just not. If I was still using a credit card, I would be sorely tempted to use it right now. I know it's better for my financial health if I don't go, but oh, I so wanted to spend that weekend laughing with friends and ogling Snape's robes. I'm so sad.

2. I actually had to ask my landlady if it would be okay to only pay 1/2 the rent now and the other 1/2 next week when I next get paid again. I've always been earnest about making sure I paid my rent on time - I've rarely been late, and I've never not been able to pay like this. My landlady, also my friend, was totally understanding. I just hate it. I hate feeling so constrained financially.

3. Leaving my cell at work last weekend resulted in not getting the message that despite all the rain on Sunday, the farmers' market went forward. My cousin was pretty pissed at me for not showing up. She was very cordial over email, but I'm quite sure that I was the subject of bitching this week.

Having whinged, I'm going to hope for a weekend of good weather and pleasant conversations. My fav yarn store in my hometown is in the midst of a community art project in which knitters are working with a local artist to spruce up the neighborhood by knitting cosies for trees, parking meters, etc. It looks like so much fun. I want to talk to my LYS in Jersey City about doing something similar. How fun would that be? I'm going to Michael's to frame the drawing and copy of her poem "Seventy Hundred Shiny Black Buttons" that pokeystar sent me. (I love you, Pokey!) I'm going to try to figure out this damn hat pattern that I've been trying to get through for weeks now. I'm going to send the draft of my Severus Shorts story to lizzyann. I'm going to finish writing up my Azkatraz experience and SF trip. I am going to sleep in tomorrow. Which probably means all the way to 8:00 am. Oooh...

Goodnight, flist.

bad things, work, family, life, good things, severus snape
