Dear Friends and Potential Friends,
I have one question and two requests!
Question:
ABC Family Channel (a US cable TV channel) is showing The Prisoner of Azkaban tonight at 5pm & 8pm (EST). They claim it is an "extended version," but don't really say what that means, either on air or on their website. Does anyone know what they mean (aside from "more time for commercials")?
Request #1:
Online radio station recommendation request.
Besides my own CDs & downloads, I listen to a lot of online radio, of various genres, while I'm here typing (I don't have to say "keyboarding" now, do I? ~shudders~) away at my dissertation... and other things... here in my office/dungeon. Here are my current favorites:
1.
WXPN, Philadelphia Public Radio, a great multi-genre music station.
2.
KUT, Music, News, and NPR from Austin, Texas, especially the music show
Eklektikos.
3.
WKSU, Kent State University Public Radio, Kent, Ohio, predominantly classical, and folk on the weekends.
4.
Radio Paradise, eclectic online rock radio.
I would like to get your recommendations of good online radio stations (whether strictly online, or a link to your fav station that also broadcasts on the internet). I'll try anything, even if it's not just like the stations described above!
Request #2
Calendar recommendation request.
Every year, I buy a wall calendar with pretty pictures to put over my desk and gaze at. My daily planner gets all the smudges on it. My wall calendar just has to look beautiful. For 2006, I bought a New Orleans calendar, the proceeds from which benefited
New Orleans Habitat for Humanity's efforts to rebuild housing destroyed by the hurricanes of fall 2005.
I'm getting ready to buy another wall calendar (tis the season). The 2007 HP calendar has no pictures of Snape in it, so, really, why bother? I would love to buy another calendar where the proceeds go, at least partially, to something useful. If I'm going to spend $15 for pretty pictures on a wall, someone doing some good in this world might as well get a portion of that.
I would like your recommendations! Is your favorite charity/non-profit putting out a calendar this year? Let me know.
