rain rain rain
the whole mall is flooded. it's been grey for days now and it doesn't look like it's gonna let up until spring. cold weather makes me feel fresh and i like it, but i need more warm clothes. also, everyone here goes into hiding in the winter, i don't see most people til march when they emerge from the woodwork, blinking, like moles.
i met a guy today who is going to give me drum lessons. i think we hit it off pretty well cause after we talked about some goals for lessons, music production theory, and musical influences, we chatted for an extra 45 mins about mour families and travel and how advertising warps our perceptions of "real women." i mentioned having a girlfriend a couple times and it's interesting how that can convince people i am totally straight. although i did mention minoring in lesbian and gay studies too...
it's really exciting to be meeting new poeple who see me as a boy and only a boy. wonder how and when i'll let him know about all that. not yet. he seems pretty chill and alternative so who knows. it feels good to be starting up drumming again with a teacher. he says he's gonna drag me through all the annoying fundamentals til it makes me crazy. good. i need a kick in the ass and i want to really apply myself this time. i've been on and off with drums for too long.
this guy's name is russ. this wouldn't be particularly noteworthy except the only other guy i knew named russ died a week and a half ago of a heroin overdose. i knew him as my sister's ex-boyfriend's best friend. he was a huge russian guy who liked eating subs and doing drugs. he was over our house a lot during the year my sister and i were responsible for the house in framingham. i wasn't paricularly close with russ. but it's a really sad situation. it's strange to think that he's just not there anymore. here's a toast to you, russ, in all your big russian glory.
