30 Days of SPN - Day 6

Aug 14, 2010 04:45

Okay, I'm off (at very early in the morning) to drive back to school. I may post tomorrow, or I might not, depending on internet access. But I've done the next one as a double-whammy anyway, so we're still on track.

Don't panic.

Day 6 - Your least favourite episode
Eh. When I did the 10 Most/Least list, I made the following disclaimer for the "least" list:

I love this show, with all its missteps and occasional flailing about in the nonsense pool. Every episode is about the brothers, their relationship, the cost and the strength of family, and the cost of standing against evil. That's what I come to see. So while the episode might be weak, or contain elements that I don't like, that's kind of beside the point, because they always deliver on what's important to me.

So on that list, I put Bugs first, followed by Bloody Mary and Malleus Maleficarum. It’s only a loose order, though, and I’m leaning toward Malleus right now. It was one of the more gross eps, and I’m not really into Show’s gratuitous ick factor. And for some reason Ruby’s jerking around of both brothers was getting on my nerves this episode (as in, just generally, unrelated to story reasons).

And I had absolutely zip, zilch, nada sympathy for the witches, not even the one who was designed to be vaguely sympathetic and tried to help (read: save her own bacon) at the end. I kind of basically just agreed with Tammi's (the demon witch boss) assessment of them, which is not a good sign. But not only that, I didn’t care even a smidge about any of the victims, except maybe the blameless wife at the beginning - who wasn’t around long enough to get attached to. Pretty much no one was sympathetic.

If you’re picking up that I have a decided indifference toward privileged white-picket-fence victims (especially those who bring it on themselves), you would be astute and clever and exactly the kind of person I hope is reading these things. Have a cookie. Or pie. I can type e-bake both. *gives*

On the other hand, Malleus said some pretty awesome things about knowing where the power you’re using comes from (again, through Tammi), and at what price. Sam would have done well to take notes, in that OCD way of his. (For Dean it was either already too late, or irrelevant.)

Ruby? Would you like to say something here? No? Oh, I thought you might. Especially since you’re now dead due to some significant miscalculations about the nature of that which you were manipulating for its power, yourself.

Show is snarky and wise. *snuggles*
