I met with the editor of my book for the first time on Thursday and she scared the life out of me about how much work I had to do. I made all kinds of promises to myself about how hard I work, starting from that instant, and then proceeded to go celebrate the viva of a colleague I'd met twice, get a bit tipsy and end up in Pizza Express with Darren, Louise and Richard. A very fun night and I did meet lots of lovely people but it could have waited three weeks!
Friday was work and incessant tiredness which I think is connected to lumps on the back of my head/neck which I take to be swollen glands like I've never had before. I was in bed asleep by 10.30 having been sucessfully scandalised by Eastenders.
Saturday too was mostly about work until I braved the weather to go to the Ulster v. Leinster match with Louise and Richard. We are hardcore (specially Louise who doesn't even like rugby) as it was a truly hideous night out. But Ulster won which was great and it was all good fun. We made our way back to theirs where Louise just rustled up some homemade tomato soup which she served with her homemade bread. Exactly what we needed but disconcerting nonetheless ;) I got home and Darren returned from an Isis gig and we sat chatting over a beer for a while. Nice.
Yesterday was all about the films. Went to see Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant with Sara, Miriam and Michelle in the afternoon which I really enjoyed. It was a bit dry in places but John C. Riley made it for me. Then, after a delish roast chicken dinner, we watched Frost Nixon which had me entirely hooked from the get go. Totally ace, particularly given my limited knowleged on the subject.
And today I've already met a deadline I set myself and made a dr's appointment for tomorrow to deal with these non-disappearing head lumps.
Oh, did I mention we have a house guest? Yes, Darren's ex-flatmate has been staying with us since Thursday. I've seen him for all of 4 minutes, though I've heard him quite a bit more as two nights this weekend he woke me when he came in pissed. I really like this guy but he's veering far into the rude category this weekend. Ugh.
Right, back to work.
