DW "Flesh and Stone"

Oh, I really loved that quite a lot.

Not a full recap this week, because last week's was just absurd, and I'm sure I don't have much to say other people haven't already said several times and better.

I cannot work out in my head River killing the Doctor. I don't mean that I don't think she couldn't kill somebody (and they were very particular to not say "murder"), and that it couldn't be the Doctor, I just can't get it to work in my head whichever way I play it. I'm very often very wrong, so I suppose that's reason enough to believe it was him, but I can't buy it.

We were meant to believe it was him, they clearly set it up that way, the Doctor certainly has his suspicions, but I think even the Doctor would hesitate to claim himself the 'best man' somebody's ever known. And I am very unconvinced that the Bishop was referring to him. He knew of the Doctor, but he didn't know the Doctor, and he used River's prison sentence as a threat to get her to cooperate and thus get the Doctor's help.

And, just on a story level, if the intent was that she does kill him (ultimate kill, no regeneration), then we're possibly talking about an event that would be in the show years down the line, and I can't see Moffat setting something like that up that, most likely, another set of producers and writers are going to have to deal with. He likes to resolve things he sets up himself. Unless, it's one of those moments that get unwritten/rewritten in the story itself coming up. In which case, okay, I guess. But, I'll remain unconvinced, until I'm very likely proven wrong.

This isn't a sticking point to me, I can go whichever way the story goes (so long as it's at least passing logical, and I'm very easy), but it just doesn't work in my head right now. Maybe we're just lacking information and something will come along that will make it work better for me.

Good argument, and it makes sense. Also, technically, the Doctor isn't a man, so that is another, small, mark against it being the Doctor.
I didn't know Moffat resolves his own stuff, but I'm glad he does.

I find myself very intrigued by River killing someone.

ETA: I was thinking about the ultimate kill, as well, and that if it were true, it would be a long, long time from now (one would hope).

Well, remember, I'm wrong 99% of the time, and that 1% really just represents the times I don't remember if I was wrong or not. Heh.

I didn't know Moffat resolves his own stuff, but I'm glad he does.
In fairness, this is just my observation of him and his previous works, and isn't something that he's stated or anybody's stated as fact.
