Back when I tried to gather my thoughts on Amber, what I was thinking of was this essay on Logrusless Chaos. Without the Logrus as a simple Pattern equivalent, the Courts of Chaos are suddenly much scarier, because there’s actually something stopping them from destroying Amber beyond being wusses.
