I know I said I wanted some peace and quiet ...

... but the universe seems to take me rather too literally at times.  Two cancellations and one no-show turned what should have been a busy (and profitable) weekend into one where we had just one room rented out each night.

Making a virtue out of necessity we decided to get out and about a bit.  The biggest brocante in Burgundy was scheduled to ( Read more... )

Your unexpected downtime sounds like it was well spent.

Congrats on bravely entering your first challenge! Some of those AU prompts are really interesting. Looking forward to reading your fic!

Thanks - I'm still wibbling about what to do with it. I keep being stalked by a Who crossover plot bunny that won't go away so I might just give in to it as long as the challenge rules allow.

Je'adore brocante! Okay, that probably wasn't exactly right, but my command of French is just *this* side of tourist-specific. It wasn't until our second trip to France that I discovered brocante shops (and their high-falutin' cousins the antiquities shops). Normandy and Picardie had some amazing stuff tucked into those dusty shops. We ran into one massive brocante sale, which was similar to what we would call a flea market, somewhere in your area one spring. Last trip, I whined until we went to the big market in Paris, which was, in my opinion, way overrated. Kinda creepy the way the sellers would grab at your arms to try to make you look at their stuff. Makes Americans antsy, very aggressive.

I've slim hopes to visit again next spring. It's the husband's fiftieth and he gets to pick, but he's easily swayed by spousal pouts.

Je'adore brocante!

Moi aussi! I enjoy the ones in our area a lot. Sadly, we don't have much time to go to the ones in summer but we make up for it in the spring and autumn.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you ref the visit next spring. If you're in Bourgogne, I know this nice little B&B not far from Beaune ... :-).
