Customer rant

I need a rant.

Last night's intake included a middle-aged French couple and two familes, one Dutch one British, with two young children apiece. The English family and the French couple had dinner with us last night. The French woman sat through the whole meal with a face like a cat's bum and barely spoke a word directly to us, despite our attempts to start a conversation. Her response to our efforts was to quiz hubby about "why we were here" in an agressive manner, then to proceed to ignore us for the rest of the meal. We gave up and concentrated on talking to the English family. The boy was playing up through tiredness but his Dad managed to keep him under control and there was no running about or screaming or anything of that sort. The girl was fine and spent the entire meal shovelling food into her mouth as fast as she could. The Dutch couple had gone to bed early and there was no sign of them or their kids all evening.

This morning Madame abruptly informs hubby that they are leaving, despite having booked for three nights in total. Hubby tells her that he will have to charge her for the whole three nights as we have turned down bookings. Cue rant about how she will not pay for services she doesn't intend to use, etc, etc. Hubby tries to get to the bottom the problem. Apparently our place is "not tranquil, she doesn't feel comfortable and there are too many kids running around". Hubby points out that this is August and families with kids do tend to take holidays in August. Madame demands the bill once more and stomps off.

When he takes the bill up to their room, the husband answers, and they have the same argument about paying. They are adamant they will only pay for one night, less deposit. Hubby gives it up as a bad job, takes the money, then firmly escorts them off the premises, relieving them of the room key in passing.

What Madame doesn't know is that I have been earwigging on her conversation with her husband the previous evening during the lulls in conversation and it mostly consisted of her off on an anti-English rant of the "who do they think they are, coming over here and (you can guess the rest) ...". It is the first time I've been on the receiving end of such blatant rudeness and I was glad to see the back of them this morning.

Relaxed lifestyle my a***!
