about the timeline for the games...

random question is random, but: how much time is supposed to go by between the reaping and the start of the games? as in the chariots, the interviews, the training, etc-- how many days does all of that last? do we know? has anyone actually made the count? do we have a best guess, at least?

Yeah- I took notes for when I wrote a Hunger Games crossover fic. These are from Katniss's games, but it sounds pretty standard.

Day 1, 2:00 EST: Reaping
~1 hour later: on the train
Day 2, shortly after breakfast: Train pulls into the Capitol
Day 2, morning: Katniss is with the prep team for 3 hours. Eats lunch with Cinna.
Day 2, evening: opening ceremonies. Katniss goes to the training center for the first time that night.
Day 3: training session begins
Day 4: training
Day 5 morning: training
Day 5 afternoon: training scoring for the Gamemakers
Day 5 after dinner: training scores are televised
Day 6: "off" (Katniss spends the whole day prepping for interview)
Day 7, evening: televised interviews (Day is spent with Cinna)
Day 8, around lunch: The Hunger Games begin

Wow, thanks for breaking it all down like this! I had estimated it to be about a week, but it's great to see it scheduled out.

Yeah, that sounds right. There's also the part in THG where Katniss and Peeta are in the cave and she thinks about how long she's been gone, which matches up with your days.
"A full, beautiful moon emerges, and even without the glasses I can see outside. I can't decide if the moon is real or merely a projection of the Gamemakers. I know it was full shortly before I left home. Gale and I watched it rise as we hunted into the late hours.
How long have I been gone? I'm guessing it's been about two weeks in the arena, and there was that week of preparation in the Capitol..."

YOU. ARE. AWESOME. thanks for this! it's very useful. well, not really-- i'm going to have to stretch it a little, 'cause one week is way too short for what i intended, but it's nice to know how the real deal goes.

(haha, the things fanfiction makes us do, right?)
