Who does "The Last Song" star Liam Hemsworth have to thank for landing the coveted role of Gale Hawthorne in the big-screen adaptation of "The Hunger Games"? (Er, besides his agent, his manager and the studio?) Try "Thor" big brother Chris Hemsworth. No, he didn't pull any strings or call in any favors. Chris' contribution was much more subtle-and girly.
When our own Josh Horowitz caught up with the star at WonderCon-just days before little bro Liam landed the plum role-Josh asked Chris what he thought of Liam potentially starring in the biggest YA franchise since "Twilight." "I'd love him to get it. I think he's incredibly talented," Chris said (aw, brotherly love!). "We run all our stuff together and workshop things and talk about it," he continued. "Any minute now, I think he's going to launch into something."
When Josh pressed for more specifics, Chris let something slip we hadn't expected. "I helped him audition. We ran our lines together," he said. HOLD THE PHONE. Does that mean, you, Mr. Hammer-Wielding God Incarnate, read the lines of 16-year-old heroine Katniss Everdeen?
"I did. Swear to God," he replied with a big grin and a chuckle. "I read that. Put my girly American accent on." And then the kicker: Affecting a high-pitched timbre, Chris gave us his best Katniss impression saying, "Hey, how are you?"
