February needs to
be here like, now. (Plz to be putting out Shanghai Express, Criterion.)
I tried to pick ones that seemed to be getting slightly less attention, but you know. That is difficult sometimes. And, of course, I was really happy
with my gift!
Arcadia
The Library at Night (Reflections on the Motive Power of Fire) - A story about Bernard, Hannah, and Valentine, so of course I am down for that. They are my favorites! And this story is really cool, erudite and atmospheric.
The Dark Is Rising
Resevoirs - TDIR + The West Wing. You don't stop saving the world just because you've lost all memory of your mythical parentage.
Eastern Promises (2007)
Both - gen, and
Unseasonably Cold - not gen. Both about Nikolai and Kirill. I like the first for the fairy tale parallels, leading up to the "That's okay, Kirill has me" scene and the second for the paralysis.
Irish Mythology
Mórrígan - stark, beautiful, cyclical interpretation of the women in Cu Chulainn's life. I think that, if you read one story it should be this one.
Lord John Grey
Carried Through Many Nations and Over Many Seas - John gets some closure, in a story that recreates the tone of the series really nicely, and:
An Unexpected Admirer - John gets to have sex and be happy about it.
A Place of Greater Safety
Six Revolutionary Pamphlets - Oh, Camille. :( This story is really good and surprisingly popular. Has the Booker boosted back catalogue sales or something? Anyway, it's a great examination of writing and revolutions - and desire.
Riddle-Master
The scars on his hands - Har being Har. I love you, Har. It travels through McKillip's world very well, and gives some great insight into Har. Bonus Danan and Aia! And Suth.
Rio Bravo (1959)
I'll Marry You Some Time - I only watched this movie for the first time a few weeks ago, and while I had problems with it (like, seriously: STFU Howard Hawks, High Noon is much better) I was struck by the characters and their constant attempts to be better. Also, by the electricity
in this scene. I think Dean Martin just broke up with you, John Wayne.
A Room With a View
And Have Their Chance of Joy - George and Lucy! Both sweet and sexy.
The Sun Sword
The World Ends With You - Duster. Doing something right, even though it's at the very end. Gut-wrenching.
I stupidly turned off comment copies and reading history only shows mystery works! So most of the stuff I commented on and didn't bookmark I've lost track of. :(
