Well, my Fulbright application got rejected.
It looks like I'm *not* going to get the state department to fund my research of the Three Manly Games.
Obviously, I'm disappointed that I'm not going to get to add "Fulbright Scholar" to my resume. Not yet, at least. I'll probably end up applying for a couple more of these throughout grad school and the like.
On the other hand, I'm almost a bit relieved. A one year solo journey to one of the most of out-of-the-way countries in the world (which I do not speak the native language of), would, no doubt, have been a difficult journey.
So I'm going to start more thoroughly investigating my various backup plans. Obviously, I can still try to go to Mongolia and study at the National Institute of Physical Culture and Sport, without the Fulbright program's support.
Then there's my original graduate-from-college plans of going and doing wushu on a mountaintop in China for a year.
I've also been tossing around the idea of trying to study abroad in Iceland for a year, so that I can learn to read old Icelandic literature and poetry.
I was also thinking of going to trade school to become a massage therapist and/or welder before going to grad school, so that I could snag a decently high paying job to work my way through grad school/if I find that an advanced degree in Chinese literature is just as marketable as my bachelor's degree in Chinese literature.
Or, of course, I could just get on with it and go to grad school already.
