For those of you new to the community, just want to check it out before you join, or have been loyal to
themiddleearth since the beginning, underneath the cut you will find all the rules, FAQ's, and a nice help guide which will be added to as time goes on. If you have any questions, comments, and/or concerns outside of actual challenges/tasks, this would be the place you would ask them. This way I can archive them and put them into the help guide if needed!
What is
themiddleearth? This community is a interactive challenge community for fans of J.R.R. Tolkien and/or 'Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit'.
What do you do in this community?
themiddleearth is an interactive community. The main word being interactive. When you apply, you will be put into one of four teams, when you get into your team you can start participating in team challenges/tasks, to get points for your team!
What kind of teams do you have? There are four teams in this community. They include:
Team Shire
Team Lorien
Team Gondor
Team Mordor
You can apply to any team you would like, but you aren't guaranteed that team, especially if it has more members then other teams. We try to even out the teams so there is a fair advantage to get points!
How does one get points? When you join and get into your team, you can go to
themiddleearth, and look on the side bar, and you will find the updated list of all the challenges and tasks that you are able to do. You get points for participation!
Do I have to do every single challenge/task that is put up? No! We want you to have fun, and make friends, while having a bit of competition, and we also understand that not everyone can be on the computer 24/7. We recommend doing at least one challenge/task a week, but it's all up to you, and what you feel like doing!
What kind of challenges/tasks will there be? All kinds! Anything from graphic challenges, to writing challenges to fun games, and trivia, etc... We try to do a variety of things.
When do the challenges/tasks get posted? They get posted throughout the week and day. There is no set time, but you will always have plenty of time to do them unless they are "quick challenges". "Quick Challenges" are used for free points, and are up until all the points are given away. More information about quick challenges will be given when one comes up.
How long are the battles for Middle Earth? Battles for Middle Earth usually last four months. Once the battle ends, all points are tallied up and the winning team will be announced!
What does the winning team get? Bragging rights! As well as a spiffy banner to post in their team's user info!
Where can I apply? You can go to
themiddleearth, and go onto the application post. Fill out the form and comment on the post. All applications will be looked at and replied to every single Sunday! No one will be turned away, everyone is welcome to join!
RULES:
1. Always be polite and nice. Fighting with other team members or community members are never accepted. If any drama starts you will be given a strike. After two strikes you will be removed from the community. We want
themiddleearth to be as drama free as possible!
2. Once a challenge closes, you will not be able to turn in anything after the due date. If you happen to cmment after the post is closed your entry will not be counted towards the points.
3. You are encouraged to use team banners/team icons! Extra points will given to those who use them every time the comment in a challenge post. It's also a nice way for the mods to know which team you are on. A signature banner must have your name and team name on it!
OTHER FAQ's:
Some of these have just been carried over from
an_inside_job's entry :]
Can i vote for my own entry? No. There are many reasons for this, but in short, if your entry is so good it deserves your own vote, you don't need to vote for it. This comm is pretty popular, and there are hardly ever ties. It's just not necessary to vote for yourself!
I can't do this challenge! I'm sorry. But there will always be challenges that some people can't enter. Its almost impossible to please everyone here, and it's nice to have a variety of challenges so people don't get bored. If there is a challenge that the majority of people cannot participate in, then it won't be repeated.
I no longer have time, I would like to leave the Middle Earth. Please let us know! You can leave
themiddleearth by going to the side bar and clicking on the "LEAVING" link. When you get there, just comment and let us know if you want to leave, and we will take you off the members list! You can always come back if you want, and you will be given the same team that you had before.
I want to switch teams! Once you are on a team you must stay there. Once a year we will post a "change of heart" post, which then you can put in a request to switch teams!
If you have any questions, please feel free to comment here, and I will get back to you as soon as I can!
