politik

Update: I saw my co-worker and apologized for bringing politics into the workplace. He didn't apologize but said he didn't mean to be rude. So I don't get why J has a problem, I'm not talking to him about the issues anyways. It's okay though, I've learned to not care about what he thinks because he can be strong minded too.

I was quite surprised or more so shocked today when my co-worker, let's call him J said my political beliefs were too much for the workplace and that I need to start showing some respect to my fellow co-workers. He's partially right that there is no place for politics at work..and my views are quite opposite of my co-workers. I'm probably the only liberal....but that's not important. Maybe it's because most of my co-workers are guys and they seem to enjoy rubbing it in my face about how well Arnold or our governor is doing. It's quite disgusting the way they glorify it in front of me and enjoy it too. I don't go around glorifying the success that students are making in countering arnold's proposals but what I try to do is convince my co-workers why they need to be conscious. But J was saying when I disagree with someone's beliefs I become too strong minded and too much for the lab, and then he says I always but in when someone asks him a question. So I listened without trying to be stubborn and told J that if he had a problem or felt uncomfortable then he should have brought it up earlier. He countered that he assumed I was going to call him a jerk for saying that..

Talk about closed minded people that pre judge you before they even ask, I swear sometimes my co-workers are too much and I just want to yell at them. But I decided arguing does no one good and took the feedback at face value and thought really hard about them. I realize it's hard not to talk about politics but it's even harder when people refuse to see the lies of our government. It reminds me of this group member in my ASA class who was so stubborn except my co-workers aren't stubborn, they're apathetic and homophobic and they admit it openly.
