Sirens blared in the distinct, and the sounds of the couple next door having sex could clearly be heard by Henry Fitzroy as he sat at his drafting table, sketching a panel for his newest graphic novel. The panel was of a police car pulling over a sports car, after a long police chase. Henry was being very careful to get the “to serve and protect” logo painstakingly accurate.

Usually, Henry was very fond of the more blood and gore type of graphic novels, but his publisher had asked him to help with a series of detective stories that the most talented artists in the publishing house were working on. The house was also having several of the action comic writers’ work on a sci-fi/horror/fantasy series. They were celebrating their anniversary by having writers do something out of their norm, to get people, who read only certain graphic novels, to try the house’s other publications.

Henry had grumbled the whole time when he had heard about the house’s idea. That had just been for the show of his editor though, he didn’t want her to think she could just tack on extra work for him and he was just going to do it happily. Henry was actually enjoying working on this newest book, which he was calling Midnight Cravings. It is a sort of joke on the fact that the main cop likes to get Donuts at Midnight.

The story is actually coming along faster than his Blood Price series usually take, and the car chase alone has taken about two pages, making the plot go along much smoother. Also, Henry was having a lot of fun because he was basing the main character after his new lover, Mike Celluci.

Michael Celluci got out of the shower. He hadn’t had a chance to wash laundry in a few weeks, so there were no clean towels in the apartment. In a situation like this, Celluci would just pick up a dirty towel off the floor, but for some reason last time Vicki Nelson had come over she had thrown all his dirty clothes into the hamper in the guest bedroom. He didn’t feel like trampling through the apartment for a towel, when he could just go into the next room and just put some clothes on.

Celluci padded through the bathroom into the bedroom. He opened his closet, a few of the clothes spared from Vicki’s cleaning rampage were on the floor. He picked up a pair of underwear, giving them a sniff. They were a little musty. He grabbed the bottle of fabric refresher and sprayed them, nothing came out. He was getting low, and needed to go to the store.

He shook the bottle so the fabric refresher would go through the nozzle easier, and sprayed the underwear and a pair of slacks and a polo shirt he had found. That being taken care of, he put the clothes on quickly. He would do the laundry some other day. He had a date tonight and he didn’t want to be late.

He walked out of the bedroom, and slipped on a pair of Italian loafers by the door. He then grabbed his keys, cell phone, and wallet from where they sat on the small table by the front door for this purpose, and headed out into the night.

Unbeknownst to Vicki Nelson (who could be considered possible love interest for both at one time or another) Mike and Henry had started seeing each other shortly after Mike had let Henry feed off of him during that whole Javier Mendoza scandal. Neither Mike nor Henry had thought it best to let Vicki know about the affair since they both occasionally still slept with Vicki.

Mike and Henry initiating the secret relationship had almost stopped all of the jealousy and hostility that they had for one another. They had both agreed that whether Vicki picked one over the other( or neither), it didn’t matter as much since they had each other. They had also decided if she ever decided it was probably going to be a long time from now.

So, since Vicki had no idea about the relationship between Mike and Henry or the fact that tonight was their date night, she was gathering all the files she needed for a case she needed Henry’s help on. Coreen had mysteriously vanished, so she pushed everything into her messenger bag and headed out the door. She didn’t really want to do this case, but she had to pay her rent soon and not many cases were coming her way this month.

Hopefully, she and Henry could get this case wrapped up soon, and she could get paid this week.

Henry rubbed his eyes, as he set down his black pen. He had finished the car chase sequence in ink, and decided the coloring could wait till tomorrow night, since he was ahead of the schedule he had adopted for himself.

Celluci should be on his way over anyway, and just as Henry got up with a stretch, he heard Mike’s knock on the door.

Henry moved at super speed, unlocking the door hungrily.

Mike Celluci stood behind where the door was. Mike had a broad smile on his face, and entered the apartment quickly. With one smooth move, Henry closed the door and was pulling Mike into a deep kiss on top of the door.

The doorman knew not to question the short petit woman who often came to visit Henry Fitzroy. She had almost as bad of a temper as the police officer who came almost as much. The doorman was smart enough to know not to say anything to either of them unless they said something to him.

The woman was carrying a heavy bag, and seemed to be grumbling something under her breath. It had apparently started to rain and she had gotten caught in the downpour. She looked like a note that had lost all its ink after accidentally going through the wash.

The doorman kept his head low, and continued to read the magazine he had been flipping through before the angry woman had come into the building. He didn’t feel like another confrontation with her tonight. He allowed himself to breath after the elevator closed behind her.
---
Vicki got out of the elevator in a huff, that contraption seemed to get slower and slower every time she came to visit Henry. It was starting to piss her off, and she wanted to complain to someone, but it wasn’t like she lived here and could really do that. Maybe she would just complain to Henry when she got to his apartment.

She adjusted her black messenger bag, as she got close to Henry’s door. She was contemplating knocking, but then she remembered that Henry was supposed to be working on his newest graphic novel tonight, and it would take him a long time to actually get up and unlock the door for her.

Vicki turned the knob, finding it unlocked. She opened the door all the way, and realized Henry wasn’t drawing. He and Mike were making out on the couch, and it looked like they were fondling each other.

Since neither of them looked up, Vicki closed the door and backed into the hallway. If they had sensed her presence, they would have to discuss this later. Nothing seemed important right now, she just wanted to go home, and hide under the covers of her bed. She needed a drink as well. Maybe that would help stop the feeling that she somehow had lost what she considered her two best friends.
