George sat in the hospital watching his friend Danny, who slept in the bed nearby. George didn’t know what to do, he felt like crying, but also trying to regain his composure incase his friend woke up. And most of all, he wanted to kill the punk who had robbed the video store in the first place.
George wished he hadn’t frozen, that he had been able to do something. Then maybe Danny and his other friend Ben wouldn’t be in the hospital right now. Why had he been such a coward, and afraid to fight?
Rich, George’s Boyfriend, walked in the room. He left a basket of flowers with a balloon on a window ledge where Danny could see it when he woke up. He then went to George and planted a kiss on the top of his head. “How’s he doing?”
“The same I guess, he’s still sleeping.”
Rich crouched next to George and took his hand. “How are you doing?”
“The same.”
Rich kissed the top of George’s head again. “It’s still not your fault sweets, blaming yourself isn’t going to change anything.”
George doesn’t say anything, just keeps his eyes on Danny in the hospital bed. His beeper goes off. “I have to go back to work.”
Rich nods, “I’ll call you if there is a change.” Rich kissed George on the lips, and George headed out of the hospital room.
