Summary: for the hotchmorgan_cm new year’s resolution challenge.
Before Christmas was barely off the shelves, Derek Morgan noticed that the mall was already filling shelves with Valentine’s day candy. It made him sad to realize that other people his age have settled already into long term romances.
It was hard for him though, because he spent so much of his time at work. He wasn’t sure how the thoughts of seeing conversation hearts could make him so melancholy. He wondered if this is what Hotch felt like sometimes when he woke up and realized that he didn’t find much joy in his life.
Derek didn’t want to be the type of person where it was a hard part to strain to smile. He was finding more and more that it was hard to listen on the dates he sometimes went on. It was hard to hear grown woman complain about such trivial things in their lives like not finding the right color shoes, when he saw much pain and heartache in the cases he worked.
He left the mall parking lot, and began to drive aimlessly.
As he was driving, a plan started to emerge in his head. He should go drop by Hotch’s apartment. Jack was with Hayley’s sister this weekend, and Derek was sure Hotch was working at cases. Maybe if he thought something random to amuse Hotch, it would help with some of the doldrums in life that was slipping in.
The closer and closer he got to Hotch’s apartment, he actually started to realize that Hotch had been slipping into his thoughts more and more lately. Actually last week, Hotch had been the star of a romantic fantasy he had been having.
As Derek pulled into the parking lot of Hotch’s apartment complex, he wondered how long he had been in love with Hotch and didn’t realize it.
Whatever plans he had been having to cheer Hotch up had dissipated as a random impulsive thought crossed his mind. He almost rushed the way to the door of Hotch’s apartment, and knocked on the door.
When Hotch answered the knock on his door, Derek pulled him into a deep kiss.
Without saying a word Hotch dragged him into the apartment, and kissed him harder. He had just realized earlier that night he was in love with Derek, and was actually on his way to find him, when he had shown up at his apartment door.
