As he paced the small elevator, Mike Celluci wondered if this was a bad idea. It was not as if he really needed Henry to consult on the case. It had just been a convenient alibi that had popped in his head when earlier in the day he had gotten an almost obsessive compulsion to go see Henry.
(The night doorman had probably thought him a weirdo since he had passed the lobby a good half-hour before he even entered the elevator. He had gone up to the door of the elevator about five times and pushed the button, but hadn’t stepped in.)
Mike had been good about avoiding the vampire for weeks. For some reason though, on an almost nightly basis, after the sunset, Mike found himself wondering what Henry was up to.
Honestly, Mike could not even remember the last time he had though so much about a person. It probably was in high school when he was first discovering what crushes were.
It was not as Mike had never cared for any of his lovers, he had just never been big on letting himself get distracted by them. He tried as much as possible to keep his personal life separate from his work life. (There had been a few times where he had broken that rule, and they had never ended well. He still was having setbacks from when he had repeatedly done things he was uncomfortable with doing all because Vicki Nelson had asked him a favor.)
Mike wondered if he could be seen like one of those romance heroines now, lusting after someone he really had no business going after. Mike should really just home, and drink heavily to see if the feelings went away. It was pathetic the amount he found himself thinking of Henry.
When Mike reached Henry’s floor, he almost got back in the elevator and headed towards home. He had told himself he was going to stay away from anything that considered supernatural in any way shape.
A woman from the apartment across from the elevator hurried unto the elevator before Mike was able to enter the elevator again. She seemed to be in a hurry, and forced the elevator closed by hitting the close button.
Mike almost turned to start head down the stairs when he realized that Henry was standing outside his apartment watching him.
Henry was grinning an almost Cheshire cat grin, as Mike began to slowly walk down the hall towards him.
“You know if you are going to chicken out before you come and visit someone you shouldn’t call them ahead of time Detective.” Henry walked into the apartment, leaving the door open.
Mike knew he should not have called. He wanted to make sure Henry was not feeding, or that Vicki was at the apartment on one of her weird crusades. He was not sure which situation he would have liked less.
For an instant, Mike still thought about just turning around and walking out the building, but with a somewhat more slumped posture than a few seconds before, he found himself walking towards Henry’s apartment.
He could go home. With the shame of having Henry waiting for him, Mike also knew he would still have to deal with the compulsions that he has been having about coming to see Henry. They were not going to just go away. As many times, as he had told himself he needed to stop thinking of Henry, the desire to see him even if just for a second kept growing. So much so, that Mike found himself wondering what Henry was doing anytime he had a free moment.
Mike closes the door of the apartment after he enters.
Henry is lounging on the loveseat. “So do you want to even start the pretense of asking me about the case, or are you just going to flirt with me, like I know you came to do?”
Mike sat stiffly in one of the chairs near the loveseat. He sat the briefcase he had brought with him by the leg of the chair.
He wondered now if he had been thinking of Henry so much because Henry had put some kind of love spell on him. The thought had crossed his mind before, but it had always passed away quickly. “What makes you think there isn’t a case I want to discuss with you?” The question came out more defensive sounding than he would have liked.
Henry sat up straighter, and with ease slide as close to Mike as he could. He smiled evilly, as if knowing full well what impact his next statement would have on the detective. “Because I put a spell on you two weeks ago.”
“Wha?!?” Mike jumped up out of the chair quickly, and almost sprinted at the apartment without his briefcase.
Henry made it to the door before Mike did. “I knew that joke wouldn’t go over well with you. I did not do anything to you. I just know that someone at the Police department has been checking into my movements again, and you vowed to have nothing to do with supernatural cases or Vicki, I figured you finally realized the natural sexual chemistry that we have always had.”
Mike had always been one to try to figure out the consequences of a situation, but for one brief second he didn’t think. Instead of telling Henry, he was wrong, or offering some excuse, Mike just dropped the charade, and pulled Henry into a deep kiss.
Mike was not sure if Henry would push him away or not. Now, he did not even really care if Henry had been joking or not about the love spell. Maybe he had been put under a spell, or maybe he had finally realized the general attraction he and Henry shared.
Henry did not pull away. He managed to easily picked up Mike, and carry him towards the loveseat. They didn’t manage to make it to the loveseat, but feel to the floor in a mad tangle of lust.
