The cold NY wind blew harshly on Detective Don Flack as he walked the streets. He pulled the lapels of his trench coat up to help. “I am freezing my balls off,” he thought to himself.

He couldn’t remember the last time it had been so cold in April. The whole year had been a bit of freak weather occurrences, though. Flack wasn’t one of those people who decided to blame it on global warming. He didn’t believe in that garbage; he did believe in the fact that sometimes nature decides to be a bitch.

Flack really wasn’t sure where he was going; he was just walking the streets of the city he loved. For the first time in a long time, he actually had the day off.

This week had been pretty busy, so Flack had an idea that he would probably get called into work sometime. He would rather take a walk, event though it was too cold for a polar bear, then sit in his apartment and wait for the phone to ring.

He stopped at a street vendor. Flack bought some hot chocolate with whip cream, as it seemed more like a hot chocolate day than a coffee day.

Flack took a warm sip. His cell phone started to ring at that moment. He had a homicide to investigate. He started out in the direction of the call, enjoying his hot chocolate as he walked.
