The name Milford/Robard was largely a misnomer, as you couldn’t actually see Mr. Milford if you wanted to. Thomas Milford, the last Milford to actually work at the company, had died ten years ago. His name had been kept for several reasons. One because it had been the name of the company since it had been founded in 1801, two to honor the man’s legacy, and three because Thomas Milford thought it would be a nice slap in the face to his three children who refused to join the firm.

In the fall of 1980, The Robard part of the Company name also became a misnomer as Stanley Robard, aged 71, decided it was time for him to retire. He was very active for his age, and could have stayed with the company until the day he died like his father had, but he felt that the company was tying him down. With the announcement of Robard’s retirement, came the board’s announcement that they would ask Robard’s son-in-law, Royce Nichols to be Chief Executive Officer. No one was surprised by this announcement since Nichols was considered well liked by everyone at the firm, and was a good company man. Nichols also worked harder than anyone else in the company.
To celebrate Stanley’s retirement, and Nichols’ promotion, Stanley and his wife, Carolina, threw a large party at their estate. Philip and Edward, since their grandfather assumed that both of the boys were being groomed to take over the Tobacco Company, were both dressed in their finest suits. They were also the youngest people at the party.

At the beginning of the party, Royce gladly took Edward around to meet everyone. He told Philip to stay seated in the dinning room, until someone came to get him. Royce had no intentions of coming back to get the boy, and assumed he would just sit in the dinning room quietly by himself as the party went on in the living room, and Stanley’s study.

Carolina mingled with the guest for awhile, but she could take an hour of talk about the tobacco industry. She saw Philip sitting up properly and quietly in the dinning room, day-dreaming. She walked into the dinning room, and sat down beside him, pulling her chair close to his.

The boy jumped a little, but gave her a tiny smile once he realized who it was.

“My handsome young grandson, you look more and more like your mother everyday. You are going to be a heartbreaker, my boy.” She kissed his forehead, and ruffled his hair. Even with his glasses, one could see the boy’s handsomeness, and the glasses gave him that little flaw that would make him approachable. People didn’t like to approach people they thought were perfect.

He gave her a hug.

She hugged him back, stroking his back. She wished that she and Stanley weren’t so busy, that Royce would bring the boys around more. She always missed them terribly. “This party is kind of boring isn’t it?” She asked, after the hug was over.

Philip looked around nervously for a few seconds before he nodded. He didn’t want to get in trouble.

She winked at him. “We won’t tell anyone. How about we go into the library and look at some of the new books I got since you were here last.”

“I’d like that.” He said quietly, and they snuck away from the party.

The Nichols spent the night with the Robards, so Royce made sure not to show his hatred to Philip until they got back home.

When they got back, Royce waited for Edward to run off somewhere, before he started to yell at Philip. He had known when he had made a show of making sure Philip went to bed, and when he wasn’t there, that Philip was probably with Carolina; But Royce had had an associate with him and had been embarrassed to find the boy not in the dinning room. Royce hated to be embarrassed. “HOW DARE YOU LEAVE WHEN I TOLD YOU TO SIT UNTIL I CAME FOR YOU?”

Royce signaled for one of the under butlers before Philip could say anything.

Brett Doberman had been a recent hire, after going through several butler’s since Thomas’s death. Brett was a former marine, and was built like a NFL lineman. His blond hair was shaved close to his scalp, and he had been specifically hired for his expertise in discipling children.

Brett came into the room carrying a paddle, and picked up Philip fireman’s style. He carried him to his room. Brett sat on Philip’s bed, and threw Philip over his knees. He began to spank Philip hard with the paddle rapidly over his back, butt, and legs.

A demented look was in Brett’s eyes as he counted the slaps of the paddle until he reached 100. Then, he threw Philip roughly on the floor, kicking him in the side before he left the room.
