Supernatural: Apeirophobia

Jun 02, 2008 22:19

My whole entire prompt table, the whole entire tale, I guess, is named: With Hair in his Eyes and Love in his Smile. It's cliche, I know, but it seems to work for this.
Shall I do chapter titles? I guess...

Apeirophobia (The Fear of Infinity)
Rated: PG
Author's Note: Written from prompt table number four in the 100 situations prompt thingy!

Ellen didn’t fear very many things in this world or the next. She ignored spiders as they walked over her face when she lay awake in the dark, waiting for sleep to come to her. She flicked off mosquitoes as they sucked down into her skin and tried to take her blood. She stepped over snakes as if they were just part of the green grass. She could leap from explosions and get back up on her feet as soon as the heat billowed over her and evaporated, already bolting to the next chase, running without sucking down her breath with difficulty. She could fire off rock salt into terrifying spirits without blinking, could salt and burn a corpse even as the spirit is trying to roast her, like they were nothing, and she could shoot arrows into vampires without even having to blink.

But her greatest fear, the one that actually kept her up at night in a cold sweat, gripping her sheets in her fists in terror, was that her unborn child, hers and Bill’s, would find out about the life they had been leading for the past ten years. And the baby would want to lead that life themselves.
