Happy Anniversary

Apr 13, 2008 15:40

I was going to try and write something about Gunter Grass, and a collection of his readings, and comparing it to bob dylan's 'best of' vs., say, his album 'blood on the tracks.' And an ignorant smidge about political going ons, with obama and carter and violence resolution.

And almost walking into sign posts.

And bemusing (which I always feel should mean an amusing type of confusion, but really just means confusing) interactions with females and the aftereffects.

And anniversaries of the last time I really fell for a girl and what a mess that was and a hopeless bungler I was (which is fine). And the handful of times where I've been pleasantly surprised by attention. And personality quirks and pitfalls and self-destructive prophecies.

But I'm not up for it.

But you can imagine.

But I will say this - Gunter Grass is an amazing writer (though I couldn't make it though his 'Flounder', only his "Tin Drum"). And he only officially has a ninth grade education - so here's looking at my dozen or so students that never made it through tenth grade. And I'm reading a collection of his work - which is why I was thinking of Dylan. And how, amazing though the songs on his 'best of' are, they don't really compare to listening to one of his albums all the way through. Likewise, I feel like I'm getting Gunter piece-meal, but there are some absolutely amazing servings involved. Though sometimes he gives me a headache as I try to grasp the depth of what he's saying. Still awes me at times, even with that.

I don't want to work today.

:-/
I want to sit in a cafe all day and read, and wish I could write.

But I had a good, though confusing, unexpected, and interesting, weekend.
