venom er showed me some scary stuff today. first, there was this 7 year old who got bitten by what he thought was a snake. he was flown into the hospital without a parent, so special staff members at the hospital focused on comforting the young chap. this one lady brought the boy a stuffed animal SNAKE. so, it's like, here...everything's ok, i'll just give you a stuffed animal version of the creature that just caused you an emense amount of pain. now, smile my young grasshoppin. where's the logic in that? in the end, the doctor figured out that the boy was not bitten by a venomous snake, so all is well.
here's somethign interesting: a squirrel gets bitten by a venomous snake on its chest. the squirrel is completely fine except for a scare from the punctures. but, on the other episode of venom er that preceeded this one showed a man that died from being bitten by a venomous snake. the venom caused the man to pass away, while a squirrel seems to be unaffected. granted, the squirrel most likely wasn't struck by the same species. but, still...it's quite a juxtaposition.
my solution:
-do not live in the desert, EVER
-not have a pet snake...venomous or not, i do not care
-i will not go into someone's room if they own a snake
-be ready to run at any moment. when i see a snake, i am out.
-if i am forced to go on a vacation in the desert, i will politely say no thank you to going out in the fields. if i am forced to go into the fields, i will wear jeans and thick snow boots. on the show, it was demonstrated that it helps to have clothing covering your legs.
-in particularly hot areas, snakes are more active at night. if i find myself in a hot place, i will make sure my room is completely sealed and i will stay in there.
also, i tip to all of you ocean go-ers:
i watched a show on animal planet about venomous things, and the most venomous organism is a type of jellifish. they live in the pacific ocean by australia and i think their name ws something like box ___ jellifish. their tenticles are fully covered with venom shoots or whatnot. their venom is strong enough to kill a human within some amount of time that is less than 5 minutes. the way to help it is to pour vinegar on it. so, bring vinegar with you when you go to the beach...just in case!
so, basically...hi. my name is amanda, and i have snakephobia/ophidiophobia. i hope i'm not the only one with a phobia. well, i don't seriously have it, but i feel like i'm close to it
enough of me.
later.
