finally doing something

Over ten years ago I stumbled across a book called The Grey King in my school library, not realizing it was the fourth book of a five book sequence (The Dark is Rising for you infidels who have no idea what I'm on about). Lately, as a result of copperbadge mentioning a compeltely different series from that era of my life, I've been re-reading the books I've ( Read more... )

My favorite book in the series is The Grey King. I finally bought the audio book because it's read by someone from Wales. It really helped me when I was playing Bran in a game. You get the rhythm of the language down well hearing it like that. It really is a lovely accent too.

speaking as a genuine welsh person, no way is the accent lovely...

I think it's really more the rhythm I like. As opposed to vowels or anything like that. It has almost a sing-songy sound to it. Or perhaps it was just the man reading it.

I think that one will always be my favorite too, though it's hard to pick one out of the set to call favorite, really. I love them all together and refuse to watch that horrid looking movie they made.

And yes, listening to an accent like that is the best way to get into the rhythm of a speech, I agree. I don't think I knew you'd played Bran though! I adore him. Haven't RP'd in ages now, mind, but all the same. (Also, the fandom for DIR is so, so tiny. I had this strange idea that it was a book nearly everyone had read, but apparently not as I have to explain what it is to almost everyone I mention it to!!)

I re-read them about once every other year. I was surprised a lot of people have read them, more than I thought. But yeah in my regular life not many have.

LOL I played the_raven_boy I had a lovely Will to play against.

Now that I've actually got the books in my possession I probably will as well, it's such a lovely world to fall into. I'm also having the insane desire to get a tattoo of one of the Signs on my arm, much as Will was scarred but a bit higher up so as to be less noticeable.

And he looks lovely for the part! I imagine finding a PB for him would be, well, a bit of a challenge....lol.

A few years back Nav bought the set for me which was nice we weren't having to check them out from the library all the time anymore. I actually made a sign in my jewelry class. I'm not entirely sure where it's gone but it was a marriage of metals. The actual sign was in copper with nickel inlays all married onto silver.

It took forever to find a PB XD and even with this one I still lightened the hair a little more and if you look on the profile you can see that I changed his eye color.

Ohhh, I love that idea as well! I've never been one to work with metals though, alas. If I were, I'd make the signs and put them on a belt, of course. Though actually that would take a bit more than metal-working.

I did notice that, actually! And it's very deftly done.

LOL yes for all of them anyway. The water and fire ones would be remarkably difficult.

Thanks ♥ I'm rather fond of him now.

My grandmother works with glass, I could muddle through on water, but yeah, fire would be rather tricky. But I get caught up most thinking about STONE.

Well if it's just a simple circle with a cross, I imagine it's just a matter of sculpting. Either additive or subtractive (working with clay or working with a chisel). But it would definitely be delicate work.
