Allow me to nerd a bit.

I love my laptop. Really, I have loved my laptop very well and it has been one hell of a trooper for all that it's been through! Don't believe me? Well, it has been my primary (often only) computer for almost 2 years now. It has made 4 transatlantic flights and and I think 6 shorter ones. It has been shoved into the front pouch of my carry-on as I attempted to get it to fit into Ryanair's idiotic little blue cage, it has traveled in my lap when that failed and it has traveled strapped in amongst my clothing. It has been carted all over a variety of apartments and homes while open and turned on, it has gone a year while rarely being shut because the proxies were annoying. It has been LEFT ON for weeks on end. It has continued to give me awesome battery life. It has been walked into walls with, it has been flipped over and taken apart so that I could look at it. Nearly every key of its keyboard has been removed. It has had it's harddrive filled to the brim, cleared out, and refilled again and not been regularly defragged. It has been a trooper.

It's had it's few little problems--there is Something Up with the fan as it occasionally makes a noise like a dying jet engine and I have to squeeze on it in just the right location to make it stop, but I know that's just a warped fanblade. And the monitor has been on the loose-edge of things for a while now, giving me a good quarter inch of wiggle room. My left mouse button gave up the ghost ages back after I played a few too many clicky games and remains in the CLICKED position, though it still works, without the satisfying clicking. And I've completely worn off parts of the touch pad.

But all these, I was used to. And then there was Sunday, when I realized the true extent of how much I have abused my poor beloved laptop.

The plastic part around the screen is starting to DISCONNECT at the hinges. And the back of the left hinge is pretty much shot. When I close it, I have to be very careful with HOW I close it, because if I am not, my laptop flashes you its wires. As Jessi said, like C3PO.

And so, my friends, I think it's time that I considered getting a new laptop. Just as soon as I get a job. And we will start the process all over again.

[it's been a fantastic machine, which means I'll probably get like...the same thing. Only newer and possibly upgraded. You can all say what you like about Dell, but this little Inspiron 1525 has been my BABY, and still is my baby. My first mine-from-new-laptop, and it's been brilliant. I WILL WRITE ODES.]
