hit it with a hammer!

So the starter in my car has been failing for a few weeks. Thursday morning I go get in my car to go to work, turn it on and the ignition goes right away. I think, 'great!' and drive out... but the car is making this weird noise, sortof like the ignition is still turning over and over. So I park at the front of the complex, take the key out of the ignition - and the engine keeps going!!! I swear, I'm not sure I've ever been more freaked out.

So the apartment fixit-guy comes out, disconnects my battery and I call a tow service to come take my car to the shop. The guy gets there, looks at my car, goes to his trunk and pulls out a hammer. He reconnects the battery and the engine zooms back to life, he hits the starter with a hammer and everything is fine. He has me try and turn the car on then, nothing happens, he hits the starter again and it turns on. I drive to the shop, where they give me a new starter. And change my air filter which was apparently filthy.

But yeah. Hitting things with hammers and having it work. That just made my day. Also, Glen came home from work to help me through all this and take me to work while my car was in the shop and then took me to go pick it up. He is wonderful :)

And exactly a week from now I am getting married!!! eeeeek! (equal parts excited, stressed and wishing it was here already)
