Bon Jovi revisited

Dec 21, 2005 21:52

Some of you may recall my entry from several months ago in which I criticized females in a bar setting for getting excited whenever a Jon Bon Jovi song was played. If you don't remember, here's the link: http://www.livejournal.com/users/themayor/2005/09/21/

I am changing my outlook on Mr. Jovi and his song "Livin' On A Prayer". Through simply hearing it numerous times at bars, I memorized the song. And a few weeks back, while at a bar with some friends from school, we were offered a shot special if our section could "sing the next song the dj played". Well it turns out that song was none other than the much-maligned "Livin' On A Prayer".

And I sang along to it like a drunk 19 year old girl with a fake ID. I wanted that shot special. And oh boy, did we ever earn it.

Flash forward to two weeks ago. The Post Bar in Ferndale. Me and Ben are talking to a group of girls in their mid-to-late 20's. "Livin' On A Prayer" comes on. We sing along to it with these girls. They are impressed. They hang out with us for the rest of the night. I later found out that the one I was hitting on was married but had she not been, I'm fairly sure that singing Bon Jovi would have gotten me AT LEAST some make-out action.

So there you have it. Knowing Bon Jovi has worked out twice for me recently. I strongly encourage any of you who do not know this song but plan on being an alcoholic like me to memorize it, or else you will feel very left out when the rest of the room goes crazy.
