The Top 10 Ways To Turn Off Your Kids To Church

May 29, 2011 11:48

I was introduced to this Top 10 today at church. It was in an insert of the bulletin.

How do you think this applies to your past? Does this feel similar to your own experiences?.

For me, some of these apply. 9, 8.5, 8, 7, 3, and maybe 1. 1 is up for debate. I personally added 8.5. I love my father, but he taught me to sleep in church. I know that he learned it from his parents, but still... I wish that It had been different.

THE TOP 10 WAYS TO TURN OFF YOUR KIDS TO CHURCH
10. Schedule personal or family events to conflict with church services and activities.
9. Don’t get too close to anyone in church. Refrain from developing deep meaningful relationships with other Christians.
8.5 Show your kids how important church is in your life by sleeping in church. Nothing will make them appreciate church more than that.
8. Look often at your watch and tap it to see if it’s working during church. Then complain bitterly, look annoyed, and freak out when church lasts longer than you think it should.
7. Tithe and financially support your church and its missions with the same enthusiasm you pay taxes.
6. Do the best you can to make sure the kids arrive on time to soccer lessons and school events, but don’t worry if they miss or are late to church.
5. Bring your family to church only when a.) you have nothing better to do; b.) you have a personal need; c.) you feel really guilty.
4. Don’t volunteer for anything or make any kind of long term commitment at church.
3. Change churches every few years.
2. Remind your kids how imperfect your church leaders are and regularly point out their mistakes.
1. And whatever you do, don’t let church influence the way you live your life.
