Another Year, Another Post

Well, I'll try to make more posts than I have been in recent weeks (months?). I started taking the light rail again, and despite the 45-minute trip, it does give me time to read or write. I took my laptop on one trip and managed to write two very long posts, which never actually got posted, but the potential is there. The light rail doesn't have any wi-fi, as far as I know, so if I wanted to actually access the internet on the light rail I'd have to buy a satellite card. Not sure what those run, but probably more than I'm willing to shell out for 1.5 hours of extra internet access 5 days a week.

In other news, as I'm sure most of you know by now, our bikes got stolen off our back patio. I'm not exactly sure when they were taken, but when I went out on the patio on New Year's eve day to get gloves so I can take the tree out to the dump, I noticed that two very prominent objects were missing. I called the police and filled out a report (thankfully we both had our receipts along with our serial numbers), and then called our renter's insurance company. They agreed to pay the full value of the bikes (with surprisingly few questions, actually), minus our $250 deductible. So unfortunately we won't be able to replace our bikes outright, especially since Michelle got hers on super-duper sale. I think for the time being we're gonna get her a replacement bike, and just put the rest of the money away until I can save up some more. I still have my RockHopper, and even though it's not a road bike, it gets the job done. I'll just have to put off my dreams of a speedy bike until later in the year.

I'm definitely not giving up on finding our bikes, though. I browse craigslist every day, and everywhere I go I'm looking at people's bikes. It's not so much a value thing, since I have the money to buy a replacement bike. It's a pride thing at this point. I got to ride that bike ONCE since I bought it, and then it got swiped off my back patio. The cop said that if we see our bikes, to call them first and to not confront the thief, but if I see someone riding my or Michelle's bikes on the street, and I just so happen to be standing near a bat-shaped object... I'm just sayin'...

On a lighter note, wedding planning is coming along pretty well. We unfortunately are passed what the etiquette book says is the time that we should have our invitations out (8 weeks prior), but the way I figure, if people really NEED 4 weeks to check a few boxes and mail back a response, they're probably not going to be coming anyway.

Over the next few weeks, we're going to be picking out wedding bands, putting together favors, and all sorts of fun stuff! And then there'll be the bills... That part won't be so much fun.
