So I've been playing the Sims for a few days now, and have gotten the hang of things. My sims have paired off (Me and Michelle, with no real effort involved, and James and Sanam, with only a little effort), the money is flowing pretty easily, and I'm able to more or less let them do as they please (except that friendships are still quite elusive

Skin tones/hair/tats are one of the things I hope they fix in S3. It gets even worse when you start working with some of the body mods at those sites. For instance, there is a Bodybuilder mod, but you have to use the linked skin tones otherwise every time they take a shower they shrink down to regular sim size and then beef back up when the shower is over. It looks odd, and lets face it anyone using a body mod like that is going to want to SEE them in the shower! Little things like that make keeping track of mods in the Sims2 what ultimately turned me off. If my Tshirt and jeans were linked to a different body mod than my PJs or Formal wear was, I'd get fucked up sims in my game. Since I was working with no less than FIVE different body types (Super hero, Bodybuilder, slim BB, Athletic and the regular one), it got to the point where it would take a couple of days to get one sim set up correctly. Loosing data one or two times with a set up like that, it's understandable why I gave up. =)
If you are looking for utilities, I am sure you already know about CEP, which you have to install before ANY of the recolors will work. I'd also look at some of the lighting mods. There are a couple of REALLY good ones that make the light in game much more realistic. There is also a SimsFileMaid that will install things for you easier. And if you have looked on MTS2, you have already hear about CleanInstaller, although I never used it. If something went wrong in my game, there is a very detailed way on that site of how to track it down. It's still a pain in the ass, but when your game is not working and you had set up the entire Xmanor on the hill, you'd be amazed at the lengths you will go. When I do a reinstall of the game it usually takes me at least a week to get everything redownloaded! HairySims.com is a must for me as well, but they only work on the regular sims shape, at least it gives you more options.
And of course I used a lot of stuff found on gaysimsclub2.net, but again not sure how much that will be of use for you (other than gay people make GREAT furniture!).
Let me know when we'll see you guys again and I'll fill in some of the holes in your Sims2 Experience. ;) I have everything but the very latest expansion (Leisure Time?).

we both feel it'd be fucked up if sims had to be married before they could woohoo.

However it DOES take a very high rating on BOTH sides. I do a LOT of hugging and kissing to get the relationship up, then control one and get them on the bed ("Relax"?). Suggest the other sim "Join" (Bringing up the other sim's Radial while the laying down sim is still your active one). Once they are on the bed together, more smooching and cuddling until WooHoo becomes an option in the Radial. And if it's your first Woohoo of the game, the cinematic is AWESOME. Of course it also makes major ++ on the relationship.
BTW Took me forever before I knew this, but if you get a daily that you really want to fulfill, you can lock it and the next morning when the sim wakes, it won't spin. The other two will spin normally. It's either right clicking on the aspiration, or shift click. Something along those lines. It's been awhile. =)

that's cool about locking the aspirations. i know there are some really easy ones to fulfill, but if you don't get the chance, you lose out. that's good to know...
