Getting older.....

Aug 23, 2005 13:03

Yes, I'm 24, but geez, sometimes it feels old. Seriously. Today is the first day back at school. As I sit here at my computer station in the library, here in Stillwater.........and glance to my left to see this girl checking her schedule online(Composition I, College Algebra, American History)......just the basics....basically. You get the drift. Yeah, that makes me feel old. I was taking those courses SIX years ago. Augh.

Guess that's what taking 2 years off from school/changing your major will do to ya. I'm officially a senior once againe~ and boy it feels good to know you're in the home stretch.......againe~ But this time, for good. Wait, back up. I should say the Undergrad home stretch, because (insert cussing) I've got 2 years of graduate school after that. But right now I'm pretending that doesn't exist, so I can see this finish line in the distance.

Looks like it's gonna be a halfway boring/halfway decent semester as I had to take a couple basics leftover from the major switch, and then a couple psych classes that will be interesting, primarily of which my Psychology of Memory class which is taught by one of my favorite prof's here at OK State. Guess what her name is Rhys? Yep, it's Professor Reese(her last name). She's solid. Anyways, we're gonna learn all cool kinds of stuff like why I don't remember puking on my mom when I was only a year old, or when I pooped in my pamps when I was 2. Just the study of memory in general and how the brain works. The repression of painful memories and how that works. Interesting(at least to me).

Back to feeling old. Yeah I do. Looking around, seeing everybody and their best friend walking around campus with their Ipod, it's just crazy to see how college has changed just in the last 2 to 3 years. The technology boom hit around 98/99 I'd say, and so all the cool stuff didn't start really coming out until about 2 or 3 years ago, and all these kids are getting to really capitalize on it, and probably don't fully appreciate it. Damnit, I played TI Invaders growing up. Not XBox.

Dude sitting next to me right now is shopping for a girlfriend on Facebook(for those of you that don't know, thefacebook.com is a virtual meat market for those of us in college........oh and........a good place to find old lost friends. Yeah.......that's why it's there, I promise. Well, it's basically a free version of classmates.com that is 100 times better.) Oh, how the internet lets you bypass all those pesky 'out of date' things like actually asking a girl "Hi, what's your name?" Convenience Convenience Convenience. That's what we are all about in America. I guess that can be good, it allows us to do more things in a shorter period of time, but it also can turn us into Convenience Whores. Virtual dates, virtual wives............laugh now.........just wait.......10 years from now. Somebody will invent it. Afterall, it's already been in the movies, and we all know if it's in the movies, that means it's already really in development. ;)

Still waiting for a line of real life batmobiles to be released by Ford. Because we all know Batman would never drive a Chevy. Spiderman drives a Chevy.
