So Susan called me on Friday and asked me if I'd be interested in helping on the wedding day directing traffic, getting people to sign the guestbook, handing out the thank you gift and helping people to their seats. My mom had told me that my aunt had mentioned it to her so I was sort of prepared for the call.
I think int's fabulous that they're trying to involve the family. I'm not sure who else is doing what or if we're the only ones helping out but either way, I'm glad they thought of us. That was very nice of her and Robert. I helped my mom with some of the baking on Sunday. From the sounds of it, the freezer is full of stuff. She's been one busy lady. She keeps telling me she's not going to make anything for the wedding but I'm sure that after this is done and my aunt says something to her, she'll start up again. To be honest, I'd be very surprised if she really didn't help with anything else but, she's surprised me before!
I went to see Mariza at the Chan centre with my parents on Saturday night. As usual, my parents were late. I'd told my mom to be at my place to pick me up (since I'm on the way) at 7pm. They showed up at 7:30 and when we finally got up to UBC, I realized I didn't know how to drive to the Chan. We ended up parking behind the SUB and walking all the way there. Not too bad except for the fact that I had on my killer platforms AND we were already running late. Thankfully, the show started late and we managed to get to our seats before she hit the stage.
I had prepared myself by printing some pictures form one of the fan sites. I didn't know how they'd turn out because they looked really small online but they printed really well on 8x10 glossy photo paper. I printed 2 in BW and one in colour. I gave one to my parents and kept two. I wasn't sure if she'd be autographing but I figure better safe than sorry. Boy am I glad I prepared! After the show I asked one of the ushers if there was going to be an autograph session and there was! I got in line really quick and my mom and I were 4th! When we went up, mom went first and she was really surprised to see the pictures. Then I gave her mine and she was REALLY happy. I told her were I had found them and she was veyr impressed. She signed them in silver ink and they're beautiful. Everyone was asking where I'd found them. I was very pleased with myself and my inginuity. To top it off, she's such a wonderful person. Really friendly and sweet. I love seeing her.
On Friday, our (Dan and me) excursion in North Van, we found two great little stores. One is a collectibles place that sells action figures. They have EVERYTHING! I couldn't believe that I had never heard of the place! IT'S AWESOME! To boot, a few doors down we found Opus Art Supplies. Just to check it out, we went in to see if they had frames and did they ever! And really well priced too! We went back on Saturday and I bought some frames for some of my collectible stuff. Now I know where to go!
The rest of the weekend was pretty uneventful. I hung some pictures and moved some other stuff around in the house. Then, on Monday, Dan and I popped into Ikea to go and pick up some drapes and Dan found some really pretty blue ones. They don't really hide anything but that's ok. We have the horizontal blinds. I really just wanted something to add some colour to the room so we bought some sheer blue ones. When we got home, we tried to put them up but found out that the fucking finials that I bought months ago doesn't fit on the extendable rod I bought at Ikea and the rod I had originally purchased was too small. Dan tried to clamp the end but it just made it worse and the finials still didn't fit. I managed to take down the ugly pretend thing that was hanging on the window and hid it in the closet but I had to wait to put up the drapes. To top it off, I lost one of the wall mounts to hold up the rod so, today at lunch I had to pop into Jysk to buy another one plus some other finials. I bought some nice glass ones that look like they'll fit...I just hope they do!
As for tonight, I'm off to the bookcrossing meetup tonight and I'm really excited! I think it's going to be great fun. I'll have to update tomorrow with the details!
I'd better go now though. I'm at work and I'm sure Barb and Stacy are wondering what the heck I'm up to right now...First though, a short smoke break!
