Why should you remember the second of November?

On this day in 1981, famed comic book artist Wallace Wood (well-known for his amazing work in EC comic titles like WEIRD SCIENCE and TALES FROM THE CRYPT) took a shotgun to his head in the midst of declining health and bouts of alcoholism, having decided it was a better alternative to living on kidney dialysis for the rest of his life.

In a Tennessee hospital exactly two years later, a certain 9 pound 12 ounce baby boy was removed from the womb of a Memphis woman who was drugged to a considerable amount in order to forego the pains of childbirth.

Who was this mysterious, bulbous infant? A sign of the end times? A faint, glimmering hope in a godforsaken world? A future alcoholic? Dare we dream that he may have been all these things and more?

Probably not.

The jury is still out on whether or not his life will ever be one of historical note. There's really only one thing we can be sure of: his time spent blogging about his own birthday isn't helping his case.
