So I'm sitting here minding my own business when I get a call. Right away it becomes obvious that it was transferred to me as I am often the default person to send calls to when no one has any ideas on how to help the hapless caller. They were being given bad information and directed to nonexistent website pages. As I occasionally read the Consumerist blog and have had my share of poor-to-atrocious costumer experience I try to be as helpful as I can even when its way outside of my knowledge/responsibility sphere. I try not to be the schmo who is always telling me what they CAN'T do by focusing on what I CAN do.
Part of the problem was that the event the caller was asking about is not organized or run by my workplace. All the actual organizers are off site tucked behind aliased email addresses and a front desk phone number where obviously they know no more than I do. So how are they contacted more directly? This was the caller's question and my challenge.
The information the caller was looking for might be answered from an email address I located however they did not have access to the internet in the near future, but I did. So using the wonderful world of online searches I located the home phone number of one of the organizers and shared that info with the caller.
Now I wait for the irate organizer to back to me.
Nevertheless, thank you Internet!
