FREJUS (AFP) - The direction of Luna Park of Fréjus decided to close thursday an controversial attraction which had a mock execution in an electric chair, says an informed municipal source. (Advertising)
This decision was taken at the request of the mayor of Frejus UMP, Elie Brun, who had expressed at Luna Park "his dissatisfaction" to see such a attraction in his commune.
"The closure will take effect as soon as this evening (Thursday evening, EDITOR'S NOTE). There is not need for a bylaw. We have reached a amicable agreement", has announced the municipality of Fréjus.
The electric chair which had already been banned last month in a park attraction of Milan, presents a latex dummy in a large glass box illuminated by bluish neons. The forain sends the current. The dummy, operated by a hydraulic synchronized pump, screams loudly, twitches, then smoke comes out of its shoes and its head falls.
The controversial attraction had been purchased in Orlando to United States for 10.000 dollars by a forain, Stéphane Woods. In statements to the AFP Tuesday, this forain of 40 years had defended to want to pass any "message".
"It is as my dragon or my King Kong, just a decor of my armoury. There is no symbol, no message. Do not see, especially not, an apology of the death penalty. It is just a trick for make people laugh," he explained.
"This is not a joke", had felt, however a mother, interviewed on the spot, adding: "we must not forget that there are people who live that".
Stéphane Woods, you're disgusting. Just to make people laugh? What sort of twisted sicko are you to laugh at that? It makes me puke.
