Random Thoughts About Star Wars

"Luke.... I am your father."

This phrase has been parodied so many times it seems to have lost it's real meaning. People go around laughingly yelling out different versions of it, Myself included. "Connor, I am....your sister!" It's very meaning seems to have gotten replaced with the idea that whoever you're saying to know's the fact already or the "fact" is entirely untrue. Now while watching the movie we laugh when were here that line because we already know that Darth Vader is Luke's father. It's not surprising, it dosn't hit us on an emotional level. But if you take a look at it from the character's point of view that joking atitude is thrust aside.

Really how mentaly and psycologically scaring would it be for someone to find out their father was Darth Vader? This is the man who has millions of deaths on his concience. He's slaughtered so many people that Luke dosen't even know about. This isn't a funny moment for Luke, he's honestly shocked. He's always been told that his father was dead after all. Finding out that you're not really an orphin is one thing, finding out that you can never tell anyone that you're not is another. Because really this isn't something that you're likley to brag about. Besides the obvious shock I'm sure Luke wondered once or twice whether or not he would end up like his father.

Discovering he still has a father would be enough of a shock for most but Luke still has to deal with the fact that his father is basically an evil murdering Sith. This is the man that not to long ago he was longing to kill. How much would you have to flip your mind around to grasp this concept.

The point I'm saying is this. When watching the movie and Luke discovers Vader is his father I think that we should all just take a moment and think...what if were in Luke's shoes. Would this moment really be as funny as we see it. I don't think it woud be.

Luke is one of the most underrated Jedi of the Star Wars franchise. Mostely because it was an old movie and the special effects wern't what they are today. However he really is a strong character and I admire him. Not only did he overcome all the odds he managed to cope with everything and resist the lure of the dark side. So though he may not have the flips and moves like Obi-Wan or Qui-Gon Jinn he is a Jedi and in the end that's all that maters.

May the force be with you
