Armor
Church had never really wanted to join the army. Getting shot at or yelled at by a superior officer all the time wasn't what he'd wanted to spend his life doing. Unfortunately he didn't have any real plans for life after school and before he knew it he'd joined up. Tex was pleased at this and for a while it hadn't been so bad. They were both on the “Blue Team” as their division was called, they trained together as well.
Then she'd been drafted into some kind of strange program. He hadn't seen her for a few days after the fight they'd gotten in over it. Yet here she was in the armory, just about finished strapping on her new armor. The black helmet was sitting on the bench next to her, the unmarked shine to it, showing just how new it was.
Deciding that it would be better to enter before Tex noticed him, he walked into the room.
“Hey Tex.”
Tex's head shot up as he entered the room. “Church, what are you doing here?”
“I just-”
“Because I do not have time to get in another fight-”
“I'm not here to fight.” Church interrupted with a sigh. Tex looked at him suspiciously for a moment and then nodded.
“Fine then, what are you here for?”
Avoiding the question Church walked over to the bench and picked up the helmet. “New armor colour?”
“Yes..”Tex replied, clearly annoyed at the change of subject. “All the participants get new armor for the program.”
There was a pause as Church stopped himself from asking her if she really was alright with being in this program. It would only lead to another fight. Besides it would annoy her if he said he was worried for her.
“Black?” Church attempted again. “Well at least it's not pink.”
Tex rolled her eyes but there was a trace of a smile on her lips.
“Right.” Fixing the last of her armor on she stood up and took the helmet out of Church's hands. Walking over to the door she turned one last time. “I'll see you later Leonard.”
With that she placed her helmet on and as she walked away all he could see was her black armor.
